By "show queen" I mean those of us who see everything. With a third of the entire broadway season opening in 4 weeks there's going o be a lot of picking an choosing as to what to see which doesn't fare well for a few of these shows.
Yes but shows depend on a much larger portion of an audience than just 'show queens' which can be a very niche market.And yes for some it dosn't but enough of them have appeal for other areas of the population. For example peter and the star catcher is a well known and loved book, Magic/Bird has crossover appeal to sports fans. Evita is still trying to market itself to the hispanic population, while they will recieve a good number of hispanics, they will recieve a wider audience of people who just want to see the show due to it's legendary status. Plus you know come opening night roger and martin will be on every primetime talk show you can shake a stick at.
Best man will rest squarely on Lansbury and Jones star power, which isn't a bad thing. Plus it has the election year hype and to some degree will mirror the selcection of the GOPs Nominee, if they work that angle they'll do well enough. Ghost can bring in a good amount of tourist but will still be pretty good reviews to stay afloat, they may need the show queens. Newsies got really good press at the parade, but if they don't pip themselves out to the morning shows, they won't last long at all. Rainbow may have some trouble, as A. It's a straight play. B. Most of america only know garland as dorothy, so they will really need to make sure to get the reviews so judy fans, make the trouble to go and see the show. This could tank if they get anything less than raves. Rebecca, will not make it as though it's best chance is to remind people of the hitchcock film, which even his die hard fans don't totally love. They will need the money horribly. Nice work will proably go the way of promises but not stick around for as long. Dinner will flop.

DON'T DRESS FOR DINNER is a nonprofit production, so the term "flop" is irrelevant. It will run as long as it is scheduled to run and the majority of the audience will be subscribers. There is no initial investment and no recoupment.

Technically a show cannot flop at a non for profit theatre, you are always going to get massive hits like 'Anything Goas', 'Cabaret', 'South Pacific' and 'Warhorse', but you still get shows that tank in non for profit.................
For the record, 13 shows opening in the last 3 or 4 weeks of the season isn't unusual. Last year there were also 13, 2010 had 12 and 2009 had 13 as well.
It just means there will be a lot of reviews, etc. all coming out around the same time. But I think it's needed. The Broadway season up to now has been pretty dull.
