Amazing show with beautiful music! Better than anything I saw on Broadway this year other than Finians Rainbow

I know this is a limited run but is there a chance they will extend this production or re-open in the future

I've heard that the powers-that-be are ironing out the details for a two-week extension.

It's selling out. According to the York, YANK! has broken every box-office record in the 41-year history of the theatre, including the one set by ENTER LAUGHING.

I went last night and I especially enjoyed the discussion afterwards with a Vietnam era veteran.

This sounds like a more awesome version of Brokeback. ^^

It's a very romantic story -- quite sensual and moving, with a lush, beautiful score. I fell in love with it when I saw it at the NYMTF about five years ago and have never forgotten it. I'm a pretty big fan! :^)

I saw YANK for the second time last night and liked it even more than I did earlier. Aside from one number ('You Boys') that was cut, the only thing missing was Ivan Hernandez's penis. It was in full view during previews, but now the locker room scene has been restaged so that he faces away from the audience when he removes his towel and gets dressed. Now, I'm all in favor of male nudity, gratuitous, and non, but I can understand how full exposure may have made some audience members nervous. So for the record: butts yes, dicks no. You can take mom.

I loved the tapping in it. And Nancy and the cast are fantabulous!

Actually my only complaint was Nancy. Way too old for all
the parts other than the lesbian at the end. I think she is under 40, but she looks about 55, but she'll probably stay in because I believe she is best friends with the composer.. All the men were cast great and Jefry Denman (sp) is wondeful. They are trying to get it to a bigger off-broadway venue eg New World Stages.

'Actually my only complaint was Nancy. Way too old for all

WTF???? How can Nancy be 'way too old' for all the parts when the parts she plays (other than the 'lesbian') are non age-specific singers and actresses. It's not like 46-year old Mary Martin playing a 20-something nun, or a 50-year old Gwen Verdon playing Roxie Hart, a character based on 25-year old Beulah Annan.

Nancy Anderson is simply wonderful in YANK. No way does she look 55. (Trust me, I look at 52 in the mirror every morning and she looks decades younger than 55). And, even if you think she is 'way too old' for the parts she plays, since you are unable to suspend reality long enough to sit back and take at face value what the authors are telling you (after all, most people don't burst into song and dance in army barracks, well not most of the time anyway), perhaps you should stay home and watch documentaries on The History Channel.

Their website allows you download and print the sheet music (for free!) and I have been playing the songs for weeks now. I so hope they do a recording.

I hope the show extends since I had to give up my ticket for this evening. Can't make it to NYC until the end of March.

I thought Nancy Anderson was terrific in the show. I had problems with other people, other aspects, but it was still an interesting evening. I do find that the York productions always seem to be a bit... how can I say it - underdone? As though there weren't enough money, enough rehearsal time. The one exception I recall is the terrific Merrily revival in the 90s with Malcolm Gets and Michele Pawk. But watching Yank, I couldn't imagine it moving to a commercial venue in the shape it's in now. It needs (in my opinion) more polish still.

Oh "hushpuppy" methinks thou does protest too much .
Perhaps you are a friend of Nancy Anderson and this is why I must
choose between questioning a casting choice or
seeing shows at all, to watch tv. LOL.

Au Contrare, when the woman is
coming out in short shorts and belly baring tops playing "sexy" roles then they are NOT age neutral. Seeing the very thin Anderson loose belly skin hanging over her shorts is distracting and it's difficult for me to suspend belief that Nancy is some cutsie 20 or early 30s sex kitten. I notice in
photos she looks much younger so perhaps my problem was that I was in the 1st row center and could see every wrinkle and vein. If
the role is so age neutral hushpuppy, could
you see someone like eg Betty Buckly or Patty Lupone in it?
My point was, that although still having a nice voice, ms Andersons composer friend wrote this part (supposedly with her in mind) almost 10 Years ago, and perhaps if money wasn't an issue would have been better served having 2 women split the parts, one being an actress in
her mid 20s.

Fantastic, PJ! I can't wait to hear your opinion. Hope you like it!! :^)

I'm sorry I wasn't there last night - Sheldon Harnick, Jones of Schmidt and Jones, Richard Maltby and Phyllis Newman were there...and Harnick lead the standing ovation. Marge Champion hugged Jeffry Denman at the York lobby door and excitedly told him how much she loved the show...and the dream ballet!

As I said Tulita she takes a good photo vs what she looks like up close. If anything the last photo gives more of an
indication. Perhaps 55 was a stretch but she sure as hell doesn't look 25-35
