Hey guys...im in an unbelievably horrible dilemma
so i auditioned for a teen-theatre production of aida on saturday. it went very well, and i got called-back for the part of mereb. they gave me the sheet music for "how i know you" and "not me" to practice. the only problem is, i am a baritone and mereb is a strong tenor who sings about 3 notes highr than i can ever hope of singing.
now, here are my three choices:
a) sing the parts that are too high an octave lower
b) ask the director (who i know very well) if i can sing for another character
c) not go to vocal callbacks
please help guys the vocal callback is on tuesday (tomorrow)!!!
I say definately go!
Practice it however you can and then if you're totally uncomfortable ask the director.
G'luck! :)
I think it's only respectable to go. So you should attend the callbacks. Just do the best you can. If the director really likes you, then they'll accommodate you. Break an appendage!

I'd say go and then ask...
If you skip it, you may not get a call back again from them/bad rumors spread...
Just go and give it your best shot! Break a leg!

I'd go with A. BTW, what notes can you not hit??????
you could ask the director or musical director to drop the song a few octaves to fit your vocal capacity

I agree with GirlforTartaglia, what do you have to loose?

yah i think i'll definitely go but I'm probably going to try to sing the songs and then ask the director if i can sing for another character.
FYI... i can sing to a high f regularly and a g on a good day...mereb has to sing to a b flat
how long are these high notes?????? If there are shortner notes, just practice with them a bit, if the music will allow you to belt them, then that will make it easier for you......
Where does Mereb sing a b flat?

mereb sings a b flat in "Not Me"...
and the high notes in one song are not that long and i can sing that song fine now... but the other one he pretty much is up there the whole time so i have no chance
How bout sort of fiddle with them? Artistic license.

How about asking the director about allowing you to sing it lower? Granted, I know nothing about ANYTHING about the actual singing aspect, so I may sound dumb. ;P

You go in there like a professional and give it your best shot, thankful for the opportunity. If it's out your range, it will be duly noted and they will either accommodate you key-wise, vocalize you or move on. If you crack or can't hit the notes, laugh it off with grace and charm, which will suggest that you are confident about what you CAN do. Do not under any circumstances take "artistic license" with the songs--that is not your prerogative. Do your best and let the powers-that-be take it from there.

Can you hit them in your falsetto?

yes i can hit them in my falsetto but im not really comfortable singing in my falsetto in public because i think it sounds to womanly and not really manly

Definetely go no matter what! Otherwise they might see it as being disrespectful or non-committed and could rethink giving you parts or call-backs in the future. I'd say just go and do the best you can - they'll probably realize it's out of your range. If you're absolutely uncomfortable with it, ask the director, but DON'T mess around with octaves and stuff, especially without talking to the director first.
Sing it falsetto!

I'd suggest you do that section (the ending, right?) in falsetto for the audition, and, if you get the part, just talk to the director. Break a leg!
go. go go go..
It would be a horrible, horrible mistake not to go.

I'm the EXACT same way about going into my falsetto. But if I were you, I'd TOTALLY GO! Plus its the chance to be in AIDA!!!!! BREAK LOTs OF LEGS! Tell us how it went when you get back!
