Intermission...the show soars best when the score takes off. Three new songs..."I Killed The Boss" is out. The song with the three girls in the beginning of the first act (can't remember the name) where they're all at home is replaced.
The three women are of course all fantastic (Ripley still has the Tony in my mind).
Not amazing, but nowhere near as good as BILLY or NORMAL in terms of material. Tons and tons of fun though.
The elevator wouldn't work for the scene it's in and Megan adlibbed "LETS TAKE THE STAIRS!"...very funny. In 'Shine Like The Sun' a piece of the set fell from the flies right behind the girls.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
I believe rOcKs is referring to "The One I Love" with the couples and Janney's onstage son. lol. Can't wait to know some more. :) Thanks for the updates.
Glad you like it. I know it won't have as much meaning as Billy Elliot or Next to Normal but it looks like so much fun! I can't wait to see it on Saturday!
Oy! A set piece fell? Did it break? Everyone ok? Was it loud? Did it startle the girls? Haha sorry, enough of my questions... It's just that, if that was me, I would be scared outta my mind! Even if I was in the audience! (Which I'm not... )

Alright guys, I'll be home in a half an hour or so and I'll answer all your questions and post a full review then.
Bottom line: nowhere near as good as BILLY or NORMAL it's still tons of fun. The new songs were okay, but not vast improvements over the ones they replaced (except "Change It" which replaced "Well Oiled Machine"). The book is intermitently funny and rushes the plot at points, but the cast finds the laughs.
Dolly's score is mostly strong (the musical moments in the second act aren't as good as the ones in the first act). Great cast, incredible choreography, the audience had a ball.
This will be a big hit.
It left me with a doofy grin on and it has its flaws (some are glaring and mostly lie in the book) but it's a very enjoyable night out.
Another note: "Get Out and Stay Out" is now after "Let Love Grow" and is therefore the second to last number in the show. "Mundania" is out and replaced with "Always a Woman" which kinda falls flat.
But I'll gladly answer all your questions and write a review as soon as I get home!
Edit: Totally left out the word "after" while reading.

Was there tonight. BIG hit written all over this, and the audience was loving it. Honestly, if it's this good at the first preview, it'll be KILLER by opening night.
I enjoyed it much more than Billy or Next to Normal or Shrek. By far my favorite show this season so far. It may not be as "deep" as other shows, but it's well put together, chock full of amazing talent, and I can't imagine it not running away with "Best Score" and "Best Musical" this year.
