Who out there was wactching "You're the One That I Want" and immediately purchased their tickets? Was it any of you people? Did Broadway finally reach that tourist demographic that yearns to see a new production of Grease? (in only one episode??)
I don't get it.

You could not pay ME to get tickets...
How exactly can we know what demographic everyone who bought tickets was in?
I'll probably see this one with standing room only tickets...

Not me. Although I grew up with the movie and love it, I've never been crazy about the show.
This show is the movie blueroses.

Well, more or less, CurtainPullDowner. And I think by show, she meant the musical, not the TV show
There are indeed differences between the show and the movie. I've done Grease a number of times in a number of capacities. One director even decided she was going to keep it "as true to the movie as possible." That burned me. I've also done the Tommy Tune version (which I ADORED!).
Each version is slightly different from the original script and none completely mimic the movie.

I know the show is about finding the leads for the new production of Grease, Curtain. I meant that I really don't care for the stage version of Grease (though I loved the movie). Even if they incorporated elements from the movie into the show, I still wouldn't be into seeing it.
CJR, let me guess. You were Sandy, right?
Hehe, just kidding. They don't make 'em any more Rizzo than you, girlfriend.

They are indeed staging more-or-less the movie. Hopelessly, YTOTIW, and 1 other will be added.
I believe this show will also incorporate "Grease Is The Word."
Is John lloyd Young running over to sing it?
A**holes.
I saw the London production on which this will be based and it was without a doubt, the best production of "Grease," i've seen.
I still don't see what the big deal here is. It's 1.3 Million pumped into the Broadway economy.

I will not watch that show. I thought the show was boring. I mean at least the bad people on American Idol are fun to watch, "You're the one that I want" is just really boring.
If memory serves, "Grease is the word" was just played during the opening credits of the movie. It wasn't like it was sang by the characters during the movie. I don't know how they would stage it with the cast singing it.
In the London production, if I recall, there is an overture, (yes, a Grease overture), followed by Sandy and Danny on opposite sides of the stage, on balconies singing a wistful, abbreviated version of "Sandy." As the song ends abruptly, the orchestra comes to life, blares the opening chords of "Grease is the Word," the brick wall splits, smoke pours out and the Pink Ladies and Burger Palace Boys are standing there ready to sing.
Apparently enough people that the producers are hoping to move into the Palace....if you believe Reidel.

Wanna Be a Foster, you kill me! Yeah, I played Rizzo most of those times. Except in the Tommy Tune version; I played Ms Lynch. She was a fun role to play.
And my lack for being a convincing Sandy is exactly one of the reasons why I couldnt be bothered to audition for this. That, and well, I take issue with the whole letting america cast Danny and Sandy thing.

Why did "smoke pour out"?
Who is buying tickets? Everyone. It's Grease! It's pretty much a brand. With or without the TV show they would sell tickets.
But no one admittingly on here has bought tickets and I consider this to be a really good representation of NY Theater fanatics. So my question is, if it's not the Broadway fans buying tickets--is it the Grease fans?
This whole thing makes me think of a "Forbidden Broadway" parody of the "cross-over" album craze of the 1980's.
In the skit, Jose' Carreras and Kiri Te Kanawa are recording the operatic version of "Grease" and they sing (to the tune of "Some Enchanted Evening"):
Who can explain it?
Who can tell you why?
Fools do the casting,
Stupid people buy...

Someone mentioned that the producers are eyeing the Palace for this production... are they counting on Legally Blonde closing really fast?
Does anyone have any other ideas of houses that might be used?
