how does this man get people to invest in his shows? he is the greatest salesman in the history of broadway.
"yes all of my shows are financial failures but THIS one is the one"

Posted: 6/22/11 at 9:43ammass, the same question went through my mind. I do want to see this though. Was reading that he has another possible Broadway bound show called Tears of Heaven.

Posted: 6/22/11 at 9:49amI think it's going to be really good, actually. Michael Reidel, as the article points out, gave it very favorable word of mouth and he doesn't usually like anything. I'm excited for Laura Osnes-I think she's going to be fabulous. And I hope for all the cast and crew involved that it is a big hit.

Posted: 6/22/11 at 10:12amThis is a very different type of show for Wildhorn, and from what I've seen he actually has a competent creative team working with him (In my opinion the music to all of his shows is rarely the problem).

I was thinking the same thing Jacob -- he seems to have more creative assistance on this one. I am hopeful, as the buzz has been really good.

I only have a naughty DVD of this from when Stark Sands was in it but i really enjoyed it, it had a few issues but nothing that can not be sorted. Hopefully he wont mess with it so much.
I normally can't stand his shows but this one got my attention

I saw it at La Jolla and really liked it, which is surprising since I'm not really a Wildhorn fan.
Of course the two nude scenes that Stark Sands had didn't hurt.

I am excited. I have never seen a video or heard music from this show, completely open mind. And two nude scenes? Intriguing. .

Posted: 6/22/11 at 11:23amI'm supporting it because of Laura Osnes. I'm so happy she's gonna get to originate a role!

People DEFINITELY need to keep an open mind about this one. It's nothing over-the-top or "out there" visually. One main set with panels that slide up and down and a few props that slide on and off stage to create different spaces. Probably won't be all that expensive to operate.
The focus is on the STORY, and it's a good one at that. Some really catchy songs, too.
I think a lot of people are going to be very pleasantly surprised.

Posted: 6/22/11 at 11:33amI just don't see how they can make a play from the movie BONNIE & CLYDE. The film was a treatess on violence, with the movie "ritarding" some of the violent scenes by slowing down the action, impossible to achieve on stage. I think I'll skip this one.

I loved this show in Sarasota. Laura Osnes was sensational, I was a little less taken with Jeremy Jordan. Partially that may be because I felt the Bonnie role was better written than the Clyde role.
It's done with a young version of each of the main characters and they show the early childhood dreams that lead to their eventual destruction. While there was a little too much "back and forth" in Act I, with a little more tightening I think this can be a great production.

Posted: 6/22/11 at 11:39amRegardless of whether or not it's good, it's a Wildhorn show- it already has a strike against it with a lot of audience members and critics. It is going to be an uphill battle for the production, whether it's good or not.

Of course the two nude scenes that Stark Sands had didn't hurt.
Didn't Jordan opt not to do them?
As others have said the buzz for this has been good coming out of both SD & FL. Wonderland didn't have this much positivity behind it. I hope to hear that Laura & Jordan continue to be attached. I would assume the issue of contracts is the only thing keeping them from announcing their involvement.
It looks like the film has been bumped back to 2012 instead of its orginal fall 2011 opening. So it really can't be counted on to raise interest in the characters.

HA I'm much more about the music... to be fair WONDERLAND received a complete script rewrite 17 days before it opened on Broadway, and I completely dismissed the Broadway production (and largely the "tryout" in January).
This is much different from any Wildhorn show. There's no "big song" like "This is the Moment" or "Finding Wonderland." The creative team is a bunch of new Wildhorn collaborators, except Don Black.
The show will be (and already has) undergone changes before the Broadway production hits, so it won't be a carbon copy of the Asolo production. The song "Too Late to Turn Back Now" in Act II has been cut (for now), but I believe one bathtub scene is still in it.
Laura Osnes is fantastic in this - definitely her star-making role. Her and Melissa van der Schyff (Blanche) have a terrific duet in Act I called "You Love Who You Love," and the Clyde and Ted (the Sheriff who crushes on Bonnie) have a great duet called "You Can Do Better Than Him."
The musical is not based on the 1967 movie.

Sorry, I didn't know that. I still think I'll skip this.
