re: spelling bee or wedding singer

Generally, I don't go to shows to see actors, I go to shows to see stories.

And for Spelling Bee & Wedding Singer - it doesn't matter.

Just sayin'

To answer your question - Spelling Bee. It's smart and fun and great. However, Wedding Singer has a more fun score, in my opinion. Although it is fun and a great time, the book is horrible and the only thing enjoyable about the show are the featured actors (and the score).
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

That's hard.......Like Capn said they are both very different! Although I thought the book for The Wedding Singer was really good!

The Wedding Singer is longer in length and has an intermission and Spelling Bee is only like an Hour and a half with no intermission....I say Spelling Bee! You have a good seat wherever you sit and there's a lot of audience participation (which I LOVE!)

...Spelling Bee actually has lots of bad seats...you can easily not see the backdrops/set.

I don't remember any backdrops in Spelling Bee??

I had a last row seat in the back section near the entrance and it was great.

There was a backdrop of a sky, which was shown twice, once with a castle in front of it. I think that's it. As well as the curtain and the basketball hoop/gymnasium doors.

Hmm... this is a tough one. I'd say Wedding Singer only since it's not going to be around as long as Spelling Bee will be. Then see Spelling Bee. :)

You will be seeing the OBC of The Wedding Singer! Loved Spelling Bee, but you should totally see TWS.

I loved both shows.
They are both entertaining and both have so much heart.
If I had to pick one over the other it would be Bee.
Well, I loved the entire cast in Bee. Magic Foot had me gasping for air. Can you see both?
Why not see an afternoon at Wedding Singer and an Evening at Bee? Can you add a day to your trip. It will be worth it.

You should also see Q! My favorite show of all time.

IMO, The Wedding Singer has a better score, but Spelling Bee is so much more fun and witty. I had a much better time at the bee than at Wedding Singer.

Spelling Bee.

I haven't seen Wedding Singer, but Spelling Bee is a REALLY fun night of theatre. I saw it with most of the original cast, and I literally couldn't stop laughing. It's smart humor with heart, and I think it has catchy tunes.
So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?
