I know people (my lips are sealed) who have taken sliders after the closing show, but I have never really heard of someone taking them while a production is still playing. One of my friends tried to take one once (a few years ago) but he got caught and had to give it back. hehe...

I seem to remember someone telling me that people used to steal them from rent so now they are attached or something. hmmmm...

I understand why its wrong to steal sliders, but why are his knickers in such a twist over it. My response would be "that sucks"....then I'd move on. No offense to Mr. Felciano, but this just seems a little over the top.

I think he's more freaked out that they were taken by one of his (and Lauren's) fans. The way I read it, it sounds like he was establishing that he would not accept this kind of stupid-fangirly behavior from his fans. I mean, it's not Wicked.

I think it is terrible they were stolen. I hope they get them back.

I deeply resent that statement. I am 31 years old. I LOVE and adore WICKED as do many of my friends my age and yes some I know who are younger. All WICKED fans are NOT "fangirls." And even many young girls who enjoy the show are not "squeely fangirls"- they certainly wouldn't steal anything such as sliders.

I am upset at the fact all WICKED haters think that anyone who likes the show is imature, stupid and criminally inclined.

If SWEENEY TODD is for intelligent, mature people, and WICKED is silly trash that only kids go to see and like, why did someone steal the sliders at that show and not WICKED?! Nothing like that has ever happened at the Gershwin as far as I know.

OK- end of rant.

I really think it is sad someone felt the need to steal them.

- I totally agree. Has he not realized that he has attracted the crazy stalker fan girl groupies. Those bitches are crazy!

If it was Patti she would've just been like "Oh well, strange people are out there."

I'm sure they could get new ones made for them. It's not the end of the world.

"If it was Patti she would've just been like "Oh well, strange people are out there.""

Not only that, but she probably would have been happy about it because it would make her feel very important and give her self esteem and ego a not so needed, but well deserved boost. lol.

It's not that hard to steal, I've done it many times. All you have to do is wait for the end of the performance when the lobby is apcked and everyone's looking for a cab, you just pick your favorites. No biggie.

Shows with stars have to make several sets of sliders because they get stolen a lot. But no, they are not cheap to make. A company called King Displays makes most of the slider boards and front of house materials for Broadway shows. Most shows have boards and sliders created in their specific show colors. So, when a Sweeney slider is stolen, a replacement has to be specially created in that specific pantone color blue with the white lettering. And that's more labor intensive than it seems.

And technically, it's a major hassle AND an Equity violation for a production to not have a slider listing a company member in the lobby. So, those who steal a slider are both creating unneccesary expense for the production (which helps drive up the cost of the ticket prices you all complain so much about) and generating a problem for the production with the actor's union.

Isn't that why he's posting this? Like, to acknowledge that it was a weird fan and not some person who was like "oh, cool name! *pockets*"?

If it was Patti she would've just been like "Oh well, strange people are out there."

I think... this is totally going out on a limb, but... Patti has been doing this for many, many years. She's used to people being crazy. Mano's only just gaining this bigger fan following, and sometimes I get the impression that he's still getting used to it and knowing how to handle it. So, maybe he's being a little oversensitive, but, in the sense that the sliders sound like they're pretty symbolic to him, I don't really blame him.

I'm sure they could get new ones made for them. It's not the end of the world.

I've said this like three times, but I really don't think he's petty enough to make it about the sliders themselves, because they're definitely replaceable, but rather the fact that people stole from their theater

I would think that they have extra sliders in the theater. If one breaks or something, I would think they have an extra one somewhere. Yes, it's slightly stalkerish to take a slider from the theater, but it's an easily replaceable piece of plastic that they should have an extra of?

Well said, Smaxie. The person(s) who stole them showed themselves to not be a fan since they did not do something to help them or celebrate them- they created a problem for them and disrespected them and the show and rules.

I think he has a right to be upset and over sensitive. I just think it could have been said a little more delicately especially when he's putting it on a web page that the public can access. Accusing your fans of stealing your slider is one way not to gain a fan following.

There must be multiple copies of everyone's sliders in case of situations like this. I doubt if you go to the theatre his slider is still missing. It was probably replaced immediately. Was there a need to make the public plea for their safe return?

I'm picturing Mel Gibson screaming on the phone "Give me back my sliders!" (The movie Ransom? Anyone?)

Accusing your fans of stealing your slider is one way not to gain a fan following.

I posted something similar to this on another forum just a bit ago, but.... the thing is that chances are it WAS a fan. Why would you steal the sliders if you weren't a fan? I'm not saying there's no possibility whatsoever that someone just randomly took them, but the highest chance is likely that it was a fan. Why is it so wrong to make a correct assumption? He's not saying that he thinks all of his fans teamed up to steal this thing, but he is implying that one, stupid person did it -- which is probably the fact. And what about the possibility that if it wasn't someone who is a fan, his fans might be able to help figure it out? The internet moves quickly; he knew what he was doing. Look how fast that blog made it here, to LiveJournal, etc.

EponineAmneris, I was kidding. In case you didn't notice, I haven't made one serious post on this entire thread. I loved Wicked too and have seen it 4 times, but I can still have a sense of humor about it.

If the boards are in the show's colors, why is Sweeney's Carolina blue?

Not too difficult to search on MySpace. :) As always, I'm skeptical of authenticity of such Broadway MySpaces.

If the boards are in the show's colors, why is Sweeney's Carolina blue?

I've wondered that too. I was staring at the board when I was there Thursday and my family was confused on why I was looking at it. I hadn't really noticed the color the first time.

Perhaps because...it's pretty?
