"from up here" versus "39 steps"

May 28, 2008 — 6:13:00 PM

I must choose which one to see. I want to see whichever one is better. I understand that "from up here" being off broadway doesn't mean that it's a lower quality show. I adore julie white, as well. I'd also like to see whichever one is most likely to be done in regional theaters (i.e., whichever one I may actually audition for some day.) Anyone who's seen either or both care to weigh in? Thank you!

Could anyone who has seen this play or knows anything about it please private message me? I can find little information on it aside from one paragraph-long synopsis. Your help is greatly appreciated!

musicals that make fun of musicals

Mar 1, 2008 — 12:52:04 AM

Hello friends that have a much better knowledge of musical theater than me. Help me out? I'm looking for musicals that make fun of themselves and the conventions of musical theater, similar to forbidden broadway, urinetown, and spamalot.

re: Spring Awakening: Differences between PLAY and Musical

Jan 7, 2008 — 5:21:36 PM

quoting heymrmusic: BroadwayAbridged, when I did the play, the director had the Masked Man in practically every scene overlooking the action and sometimes making the action happen. Kind of like the Broadway version of the Proprietor in Assassins. For example, the Masked Man offered the switch to Melchior, pantomimed the story about the queen with no head, and held the bunches of grapes in the Hans Rilow/Ernst Robel scene, among other things to that effect. That way, when he popped out and spo...

re: Have you ever been to a show where the audience actually booed?

Apr 9, 2007 — 6:17:13 PM

I hate it when people boo upon hearing an u/s will be performing because I hate it when people assume the understudy is worse than the regular actor. In some cases, the u/s is BETTER than the regular actor because the regular actor is just a name or D-list celebrity and the u/s is the one with real talent. Further, I hate how often audiences at operas boo. Conversely, I hate undeserved standing ovations. I guess I hate a lot of things!

I am embarassed by how emotionally connected to this show I am. I hope it goes away soon. I really hate being reduced to tears after hearing even a single bar of a song.

I was the barest of aquaintaces with a guy who saw her play Evita when she was 15. I forget exactly how he explained it, but he said that wasn't exactly the truth. If I remember right, I think he said she was IN it, and not the title role. But I could just be spreading internet gossip. Anyway, he brought it up cuz he said wikipedia was wrong.
