Ok to wear shorts to the theater when it’s 94 degrees out?

Some people might say no, but I say screw what those people think. I'm not suffering in the heat because some people think Broadway requires business casual and above. I also have been know to wear jeans *gasp* to shows, so take that as you may.

At this point, what difference does it make?

When you see the way people dress when it's 32 degrees--- as if they've come straight from the gym (perhaps they have); when you see the pictures of how celebrities dress for opening nights, really, at this point, what difference does it make?

I remember taking a trip to NYC in college... over 12 years ago now... it was an unbelievably hot weekend and everyone was in shorts. We just had to, it was unbearable.

What people look like at the theater is something I choose to not care about. As long as you are wearing clothes, don’t smell bad, and aren’t talking or playing on your phone you’re a great person to be sitting next to.

Of course! Although just a heads up, the AC might be blasted. So maybe bring a sweater with you just in case it's super chilly? I remember being at Wicked during a heat wave several years ago, and I was so cold, I got a hot chocolate during intermission.

The average ticket price is through the roof.  As such, I should be able to enjoy the show as comfortable as I want to be.

I’ve worn dress shorts, dress shirt and a light blazer with dress shoes so as long as it’s presentable, absolutely.

I wouldn’t wear basic shorts, sneakers and a t-shirt, though.

I usually come from work straight to the theater so I wear business or business casual. However, in weather like this and if you're taking the subway where it's unbearably hot and sweaty and gross, I say bring on the summer wear if you can. Seriously.

People can wear whatever... I usually wear whatever I had worn to college that day, which after April is shorts and a tee. I know somebody who likes to go in onesies or pajamas, and somebody who goes in suit and tie! It's a whole spectrum, show up in anything as long as you do not have any private areas shown.

Yes. You're all sitting in the dark looking at something else. The fabric that happens to be affixed to your person as you transit through the lobby is of no consequence and anyone who thinks it is is a prong.

For me, going to live theater is as common as eating a sandwich. No need to dress up much for it as the audience is there to see the performers, not you.

Absolutely. I had tickets to a show last sepetmeber after the bway flea and it was incredibly hot that weekend so I wore shirts and a nice tank becsuse I was outside all day beforehand. I’m all about being comfy especially since I’m bigger.

At almost $200 per ticket to see a Broadway show, they dress like they’re going to a $14 movie.   I can’t with this.
