So many revivals this season(2025-26). Mamma Mia, Beetlejuice, Ragtime, Chess, CATS, Sound of Music, A Chorus Line?, Hairspray?, Dreamgirls?, Damn Yankees?, Crazy For You?. Anything else anyone wants to possibly mount this season?

To be fair, BEETLEJUICE is not a revival, per Tony nomination eligibility standards. 

But yes, it should be an exciting season in the world of Broadway musical revivals.

There is absolutely no way LCT is doing Sound of Music as part of the 25-26 season. They're not doing two large scale musical productions in the same season. And if they're trying to get Zegler, it seems pretty unlikely she could do both that and Evita in one single season, as well.

It may be a bit hypocritical to say, given I'm in rehearsals for a community theatre production of it right now, but in general terms I think ​​​​​​The Sound of Music is so straightforward and well-worn material that any revival has to immediately answer the question, "what's different about this take?"

That said, Rachel Zegler as Maria would very much be enough to get me interested in seeing this one.

Half of those have been kicked around as "coming soon" for years now so let's see what actually happens aside from the already announced ones.

Also, I know it's just a rumor so I doubt it would even happen (the SOM revival) but I think the smart move for Zegler would be to capture the zeitgeist the way Nicole did and bring Evita here in Fall 2026 (likely the earliest possible time due to Chess and Cats). Detouring to The Sound of Music feels like it could have the power to dull momentum for her bringing this well received production here.

Sound of Music would be their 2026 Fall musical, and likely Evita would be in the 2027 season...

That's what I was implying, but it seems like a long time to wait to bring over what seems to be a hot ticket production. We'd have 2 full theatrical seasons before then.

Oh my goodness! The way I have been manifesting a Sound of Music revival starring Rachel Zegler! Especially since her Snow White felt like a version of Maria von Trapp, particularly her scenes with the seven dwarfs. I hope this comes to fruition!

Dreamgirls and Crazy For You have been coming soon for 30 years. Then again I could've said the same about Chess until like three weeks ago so maybe this time. 

Damn Yankees is playing in DC from September until November. To open before the Tonys they'd have to hope the DC production is perfect with no need for tweaks. If they need to tweak it and still want to open before the Tonys they'd have to do a workshop after DC and then open cold on Broadway. I think it' safe to say that'll be 2026-2027 instead.

Chess has been properly in the works since before the December 2022 concert.  Lea apparently has been attached since sometime in 2022. This is backed up by Lena Hall in a comment on a tiktok about Chess over a year ago where she said she only did that concert as Lea  had to step away, presumably due to her ending up doing FG unexpectedly,  and couldn't do both with Fanny being all consuming of her time. its widely known it was only held off when she was having a baby so it coming in now is no shock to those who were aware of all this.

As far as I'm aware, they had planned to bring Dreamgirls in after the London run post 2017 but for whatever reason that didn't happen and while people have been hoping for it I've never heard any strong evidence it was actively being readied to come in the last few seasons.

Doesn't mean it won't happen but at this stage it doesn't seem likely for it to happen by April.

For her part, Rachel Zegler has posted screenshots of the article on her IG story, but only the parts about Evita and its potential transfer.

Not that that necessarily means anything about whether or not she's going to do The Sound of Music (it's probably best practice to focus on a show that's currently happening vs one that might happen).

I'm wondering if a revival at the Lincoln Center could potentially conflict with the new tour that's supposed to launch this year starting at the Kennedy Center.
