Gotta love Metcalf doing two meaty roles in one season, though I wonder how that will impact her chances of a Tony if she ends up competing against herself.
Also, the Winter Garden feels HUGE for this show, but I feel like it’ll still get filled regardless
Anything with Metcalf, count me in!
I presume this is a Rudin production? If yes, please more Rudin productions^^
Wendell Pierce was brilliant in the role only 3 years ago so it's interesting it's coming back so quickly. But, I've wanted to see Nathan Lane take on this role forever, so this is exciting. The theater choice? Not so much.

Yes, it's a Rudin and Diller production.

Metcalf will undoubtedly receive two nominations this season. Has anyone ever been nominated twice in the same season in the SAME acting category? (Yes, I know others have been nominated twice in the same season in DIFFERENT categories)

Metcalf will likely be eligible in the Featured category for Salesman. That's where Linda Emond was nominated in 2012 and Elizabeth Franz won in 1999.

No one has been nominated twice in the same acting category, only leading and featured. Metcalf will probably be leading for Little Bear Ridge Road, and based on precedent, may be featured for Death of a Salesman. For the 1999, 2012 and 2022 productions of DOAS, Linda Loman was considered a featured role. Elizabeth Franz won in 1999 and Linda Emond was nominated in 2012. Sharon D. Clarke was not nominated in 2023.

This sounds great. I still have hope we'll see the Metcalf/Montello Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? come back.

Interesting tidbits in the Times article:
The Miller estate has given Mantello access to early “Salesman” drafts, and he has been scouring them for staging ideas. The revival team is envisioning a production that is more abstract and timeless than some productions. “There were really some pretty surprising theatrical ideas in those initial drafts,” Mantello said. “I don’t think he imagined a kind of heightened naturalism — it was much more abstract, and I’m interested in what he was thinking about.”
The revival at the Winter Garden Theater is scheduled to last for 14 weeks. The theater, a onetime horse exchange with 1,500 seats, is larger than most Broadway play houses, but it has housed other dramas (most recently, this year’s “Good Night, and Good Luck,” starring George Clooney) and the “Salesman” production team is envisioning removing some rows of seats to bring the action closer to the audience. But they also plan to take advantage of the theater’s size, in part by using a real car (a motor vehicle is central to Loman’s life and the play’s plot).
Just for the record: while Sharon D. Clarke wasn't nominated for this role, we know from the eligibility rulings that she was competing in the Featured category.
As for this production: given we have quite a few data points from the last decade showing that Metcalf and Lane are not big box office draws, putting this in the Winter Garden is pretty comical.

this is going to flop at the Winter Garden, Metcalf can barely fill the booth right now, granted it is a more notable play and has Nathan Lane but Nathan also hasn't been in a big hit in years and we just had a revival 3 years ago.

This doesn’t answer my question but I appreciate the context.

Why? Wendell Pierce yelling at me from the latest revival a few years ago is still fresh in mind.

Designers are regularly nominated multiple times in the same category. There are obviously no rules against it.

I know but at the Oscars every category is possible to the person be nominated more than once, but the actors can't, that why I wondered if it's the same at the Tonys.

This is I’m sure a stupid question but I’m coming to New York June 19th, does anyone know if 14 weeks start when previews start or 14 weeks from opening night. I don’t want to miss this!
Nothing in the rules prevents a dual nomination in the same category, but it arguably is a risky move because the Tony voters select a performance, and not an actor per se. Therefore, it’s possible someone could turn in two strong performances and get the short shrift because the voters would pick one or the other and split the difference - much like when a show has multiple nominations in the performance categories.

It would start from the first performance.

To be fair, from the past awards I've looked at, it doesn't seem that multiple acting nominations for a show have actually prevented someone from winning if there's a clear frontrunner for one of them. So while it's possible that vote splitting happens, usually it seems that one role is more generally lauded than the other and it still ends up winning. So if in the case Laurie Metcalf gets nominated in the same category for both Little Bear and Salesman, I would wager that Salesman gets more "momentum" from being more recent.
