I just read on Perez Hilton that Ryan Murphy has gotten friendly with Gwynnie Paltrow and emails her on the weekends with future GLEE storylines and she gives feedback and suggestions.
No wonder the show has gotten worse. She is an entitled nightmare-I can only imagine what her input is like.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Paltrow, lol. That said, Murphy is such a complete no talent when it comes to serialized story at any rate (he often comes up with good initial concepts and premises) that I don't think anything Gwenyth could suggest would be worse than what he'd come up with on his own.
I do think the show has a lot going for it, but I admit the huge inconsistencies are often just too much for me--and the lack of any direction. Maybe they should just drop any pretense of character development or storyline development and make each episode completely standalone like a 1980s show... Because otherwise it's always two steps forward, three back.
But the come back that "Most TV is crap" is utterly ridiculous to me. I can think of a lot of TV thgat's very good, and where the headwriter doesn't completely go off the rails by the second season.
Ok, why is this thread needed? This and the "I Now hate Glee" thread? This is Broadwayworld!
That being said, Glee has many good moments( basically anything Jane Lynch, Heather Morris or Chris Colfer do) and downright awfull moments(Cory Monteith's autotuned voice, Bieber.), but no opinions are going to be changed by this thread. The only thing that this thread will do is drive us to hate each other.
There are BIGGER things that could be discussed then Glee!
What I don't get is why this show has inspired so much hatred, especially when it is about the exact opposite? This is just my personal opinion, and no one has to agree with me, but I've enjoyed the show from the very first episode. I find most of its stories entertaining and often touching, although some (see:fake pregnancy) were awful. Likewise with the music- love some (Don't Stop Believing, Hello, Faithfully), others not so much (Bieber, most of Cory Monteith's solos). But it drives me nuts when people look down on my opinion just because it is not theirs. Allow me to enjoy what I like without being mocked or told I'm wrong.

The thing I have to address about this is that no one is mocking or looking down upon anyone in particular here (except, perhaps, the Glee cast.) You're allowed to like the show and have an opinion on it, and others are allowed to do the exact same thing-which means that if we want to bash it, we can.
Absolutely. I guess what I meant was that I get annoyed when people on either side of the debate, who are extremely passionate, start disparaging other people rather than the show itself. As long as the idea is "I think the show is ridiculous", not "I think you're ridiculous for liking the show", it's all good :)

I guess I'm just wondering what the point is of bashing it...
Just in general, I've never understood why people would bother going on about how much they hate something haha. I mean when I don't like something, I just ignore it.. simple as that *shrug* I don't see the point in spreading such negative energy, about anything. I mean don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people making critiques and stuff- I'm a HUGE Glee fan and I have plenty of critiques of it as well! haha. But when it's all just a big stream of "omg it's so annoying" and "omg the show sucks, I can't stand it", I just don't really get the point. If that's how you feel (which is of course perfectly valid), why not just ignore it and focus on something you DO like?
And again, this isn't even just about Glee, I just don't get the whole thing behind bashing in general :) I try to make a point of not making comments that do nothing but spread negativity about something.. that's just me.
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

Is that really what you see most criticism of it saying? I usually notice people giving actual reasons why they don't like it that are germane to the show, and the response is usually "I know it's badly written, but it's fun!" or the like.

It at least tends to get fairly close to that, yeah haha. That's not to say there aren't people who bring up perfectly valid points and actually make an effort to engage in real conversation about it though :) But it's just there's also a LOT of straight up "ughh it's so damn annoying and I can't stand anything about it" type mentality.

This is more than just people complaining about the show. Of you read through the numerous threads you will see that everyone provides perfectly legitimate reasons and logical explanations for hating the show. When a shown this popular, people who don't like it have a right to say why they don't like and talk with others who feel the same. This is more than us just whining about Glee, we are discussing what we dislike about it and why.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
"It really gets me when people argue that the show is good because it addresses issues like bullying, tolerance of gay students, and unity amongst students in the high school environment."
Hel-LO??? I am I the only one who remembers JAMES AT 15??
I am?
Oh. Well. Never mind. Carry on.
Going off the topic a bit: RobbieJ and FindingNamo are going to MEET sometime soon???? Whoa. That's some kind of FIFTH ELEMENT sh*t going on right there.

Borstalboy - I am saying that the show has good themes it is trying to promote, but the show itself is just terrible in my opinion. Glee is not the first show to deal with these issues. Many people argue that the show is good because it addresses these things, but just because it addresses these things does not make it a good show. There are shows out there that address these issues in a much better and realistic manner.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
Oh, I totally know what you mean! It's just that "issues" go back about as far as the "very special episode" if ya know what I mean. The "Issues" are presented with such a lack of depth and understanding, they might as well not be presenting them at all.
