But yeah, who stole a pair of shoes for a kid?
Are you talking about when Sophia took her son shoe shopping and he got upset and ran out of the store wearing the $300 shoes?
Ohhh, she must be. That ain't what happened. lol
The Sophia storyline is brilliant.
I saw the actress who plays Sophia on MSNBC yesterday and she said that her twin brother plays her character as a man. I thought that was very cool and lucky for the show!
"My one issue is that everyone's crime (except Piper) serves to make them more endearing - stealing shoes for a child, taking revenge on a rapist, etc."
Wrong on both accounts. As others said, Sophia stole credit card information to pay for her sex change operations. That's why she was taking pics of financial papers in the burned-out house.
Miss Claudette ran a child slave ring. The underage girls cleaned houses to pay for their parent's immigration debts. She wasn't caught for the murder.
Yeah, in no way do the crimes **endear** me to them. To me it gives a lot of context to their characters. Some of their crimes do account for wrong place, wrong time but a lot of it is just how due to race or class issues there were almost given no other choice on the matter.
Jenji Kohan actually calls Piper her 'trojan horse'. She completely acknowledges that for her tackling a lot of these issues that she had to get into the prison system with a white character. I like the honesty and I don't really care if the show is so different from the book.
Sophia was stealing or copying credit cards, based on those photos she took in those fire scenes, and using it to support her family as well as her transition. I believe the show, rather subtly, suggested that it was her son ratting her out- with the shot of the kid looking at the credit cards when Sophia got arrested. The sneakers incident was the kid just embarrassed to be seen in public when one of Sophia's former co-workers recognizes her at that place.
Jordan, Netflix Friday Night Lights. Fair warning: You'll cry during a lot of episodes.
Strummer, THANK YOU. I KNEW there was a show that I been meaning to watch for a while and that was it!

OMFG!!! I had no idea that Lorraine Toussaint had joined the cast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH NO!!!!! It looks like Sister Ingalls is taking ill for Season 2. But it also appears we are getting her backstory. Sorry, she reminds me too much of my Grandma and the real life woman Sister Ingalls is based on was hardcore radical.
Piper in IDGAF mode. Finally!!!!!!

Did anyone else start watching season 2 yet? I won't spoil anything. And I've only seen the first 3 so far. But, the first episode was really great. And then finding out what happened between Piper and Pennsatucky in the season 1 finale in episode 3 was interesting.

I made it through the first three episodes as well this afternoon before having to leave for rehearsal. Luckily I have a short session tonight. Counting down to 9:00 so I can head back to the house and keep watching.
I watched the first episode today because my friend said she was in it. I was giving the show a second chance, but no, it's still too disgusting for me.
I just finished the 6th episode of the new season. I probably shouldn't mention any spoilers yet since it just went up to watch but this season is SO DAMN GOOD!
I had watched the wrong episode looking for my friend. I just watched the right one. She was the one they called "menopause" who was talking about penguins and started the fight. She was good!
I love Lea Delaria, but after this show, I will never be able to look at her in the same way. This character totally skeeves me out.
And SHUT UP! That kid playing the little girl version of Crazy Eyes in episode 3 was SPOT ON!
Just watching episode 8 now.
Potential Spoiler (Nothing with storyline, just a character.)
I miss really crazy Pennsatucky. I hope more is coming for her because she was a riot in season 1.
End Spoiler
Lorraine Toussaunt is EVERYTHING I could have hoped she would be this season. I'm happy how she's immediately a leading chatacter, even erring more screen time than most other people
WOW! Eight! I think you are in the lead. The furthest along I have seen so far is episode 5.
Yo... Episode 3 gave a shout out to Xenia, Ohio. o_O It's ALL connected, people.
I just finished episode 10. Taking a lunch break. :)
Episode 8 at over 24 hours is nothing. I know of people who were up the second it got on Netflix and watched all 13 episodes at once.
I just finished. I won't spoil anything, but am VERY satisfied with this season, and it was a great season finale.
I let out the most unattractive scream-laugh at the end.
I loved season one. I tried to get through episode 1 of season 2 three times but keep falling asleep because without the rest of the inmates from season one I find it painfully boring. Piper is only good in very small doses. Going to give it one more shot and skip to the next episode. I hope it gets better.
