Busy weekend around here. All of the "improved" pictures are wonderful.

These little videos almost have a Rent bloggish feel to them with waiting for a new one every day.

That clip's from around last November, right? It's funny that he looks so different now (especially after just getting used to the bleached look).

Aw, I loved the Rent movie blog. Good stuff re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eleven

I was so clueless during my Rent movie blog phase. I knew pretty much nothing about Rent.

I would liken sitting through the second act of Spring Awakening to a very slow and painful death.

Awww, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy SA. I didn't think it was painful, but I'm also not rushing to go back and see it again.

I take it SA is the show I'll want to be drunkest for this April then. Duly noted.

It's funny how Adam Pascal almost looks like a normal human being during most of the Rent movie promotion. I can't decide if I like him better that way or not.

edited to add: about 5 minutes after I posted this response, I got a phone call to daffily inform me of the important news "I had a dream that we were at Spring Awakening and Adam Pascal was there..."

I'm sure that distraction could make even Act 2 a rip roaring good time.

I think it's one of the worst shows I've ever seen, bar none. By the end of the show, I was laughing at the most melodramatic events. I do have to admit that thought crossed my mind that it might be a passable show when viewing drunk.

If the person who called you is who I'm guessing it is, I think it's hysterical that Adam Pascal has invaded her dreams.

Not to diminish your opinion, but if that is the worst show you have ever seen, consider yourself lucky! re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eleven

Why did you dislike it so much, Lexi? I gather that it has a rather melodramatic Victorian plotline - was that it?

And I don't normally dwell on the negative, but what do you consider the worst show you've seen, Emcee? I was trying to think of mine, but couldn't really come up with anything. Even a show like the Follies revival of a few years ago, which doesn't seem to be very well thought of, I really enjoyed. Then again, I only see a handful of shows each season.

Chloe - I agree I tried thinking about it and I have like every show I have seen (regional, off broadway, broadway) in some way. I may not want to see it ever again, but I have come away finding something positive.

Heh, the worst show I've ever seen was a High School production of The Music Man. I wanted stab myself in the ear.

I have to say, the Spring Awakening CD gets more play in my car than almost any other CD I own. I just love it.

The worst show I've ever seen would probably be Copacabana. It had its funny moments at the time, but the more I think about it, the worse it seems!

I think I've seen only one high school musical. The HS I went to didn't do musicals, only plays, but a couple of years after I moved away I went back to my old home town and saw the HS there do Brigadoon. It seemed wonderful when I was 15, but I have no idea if I would feel the same now. It was a very small town, too.

I saw the Threepenny Opera revival, and though it wasn't particularly good, neither did I find it painful to sit through. The score is great, and that made up for everything else.

For HS musical productions, I've seen - Secret Garden, Godspell (was in it unfortunately), Bye Bye Birdie, Little Shop, and Fiddler for musicals. All were pretty decently done.

I've seen so many HS musical productions. I've been in a lot of them too, and they all have been, surprisingly decent. I won't make a list listing all of the ones I've seen, but I've seen at least 2 each year for the past 6 or 7 years.

Uuum. I don't even know. I have seen so much bad theater, for a lot of reasons. One being that I like to try to see lots of different kinds of things, even if they aren't up my alley or I know they're going to be bad. It's good "exercise." The other being that for my job last summer, I had to cover things in a lot of the summer festivals, which tend to be horrible. On Broadway? Probably Brooklyn or Good Vibrations. I saw In My Life, too. I didn't love Spring Awakening by any measure, but compared to those, that thing is pure genius. They were trainwrecks. In other places? I could make a list that goes on and on, but everything is obscure. I once saw a half-modernized version of Romeo and Juliet that involved some bondage. I saw "Air Guitar: The Musical," which was... well, awesomely bad. It was part of the Fringe. There was a musical adaptation of Macbeth, that just... made no sense. I couldn't even explain it to someone if I tried, that's how bad it was. I'm having a mental block right now as to the names of the true worst things I've ever seen, but a lot of them were those kinds of things. Of course, it's not like I didn't see the majority of these things voluntarily (to a degree -- some were for a class, etc.) but still... baaaad.

Oh, look, Mandi stole my comment, almost word for word! That was exactly what I was going to say. Oh, how I LOATHE The Music Man.

I guess I can (fortunately?) say that I haven't seen enough professional theater to have seen anything truly awful. I really disliked the recent national tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie, but I think that show itself is mediocre-to-weak and can only be salvaged by having a true knockout of a performer as Millie, which the actress I saw wasn't. I find the idea of being trapped watching a truly awful performance so horrifying that I avoid anything that I think will be that bad. Cowardly, I know. I say "trapped" because I would probably feel too bad for the performers to be able to walk out.

To get back to the positive, here's a new actor to watch out for - James McAvoy. He's in The Last King of Scotland playing a Scot (which he is), Starter for 10 (opening Friday) playing an Englishman, and Penelope playing an American. I've seen him in one of these so far, and he's very talented and charismatic.

Well, I'm speaking with regards to only Broadway productions. It's possible I disliked another Broadway show more when I was young, but I can't say that I've disliked anything more in relatively recent memory than this show. I've seen countless awful community theatre productions back in the midwest which were a thousand times worse than Spring Awakening. Thankfully I've never been subjected to anything on the level of In My Life, Brooklyn, Hot Feet, or any other of those true flops on Broadway (and okay, I loved High Fidelity!). I remember disliking The Music Man on Broadway, but it didn't actually anger me to the point that Spring Awakening did.

Chloe, I posted a long review of it in a new thread on the main board. I don't really want to get started on it in this thread because I seriously cannot stop. The entire show just bothered me, from the concept to the creators trivalizing true teenage issues to mediocre music to mediocre acting to paper-thin characters. Updated On: 2/20/07 at 01:36 PM

I saw your thread on the main board, but honestly don't have much to add since I haven't seen the show yet. It's still one of the shows I plan on seeing when I'm in New York over spring break, if only so I can come to a conclusion about it.

I think there's a handful of songs that I find actually listenable (in the car, etc), but I thought it was from me not having seen the show and hearing the songs only out of context. From what you've said- maybe they really just aren't that good to begin with.

I agree with you, Chloe. Taking a night or two away from my friends while on vacation to see a show alone and feeling "trapped" after intermission terrifies me.

I feel like Spring Awakening is the type of show that you should go into having not heard the music beforehand. I'm glad I got to see it early in previews when I didn't know much about it other than it had garnered a lot of buzz Off-Broadway.

Though I have not seen the production of Spring Awakening; there are some aspects of the plot and the music that does bother me. I mean, I love the songs 'Mama Who Bore Me' 'Totally F*&#@^' and 'I Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind'; but it seems to me like there trying too hard to come off as the next RENT. But that's just my opinion I guess. And speaking of fun productions that I've seen, I recently saw an amazing HS production of LSOH's, and I saw Hamlet at the old Gutherie downtown Minneapolis, which was AMAZING. So how has everyone's day being going?
