I love Danny Burstein and his performance as Tevye. He holds a very, very dear place in my heart—but I maintain that this is Odom's award to lose. His Burr is nuanced, layered, brooding. His standalone performance in "Room Where It Happens" is revelatory (both artistically and thematically), let alone everything else he does in and for the show. Count me as one solidly in Odom camp.

And I loved Hamilton, so I certainly won't be disappointed if any of them take the prize.
Like you, I thought that Burstein was super as Tevye too!
Much like last year, I can't wait for this year's Tonys.

Here are some reasons why I think Danny Burstein may have a chance of winning (aside from being overdue):
1. Lead Actor in a Musical could be one of those categories where Tony voters would like to vote for something other than Hamilton.
2. If Tony voters would like to find some way of acknowledging Fiddler on the Roof, Lead Actor in a Musical seems like a great place to do it.
3. He really has a more heartfelt role.
4. Unlike Leslie Odom Jr., Burstein is the central lead of his own show.

"With a major opportunity to award an actor in an original role where he is obviously killing the role. You honestly think Danny will win the pitty TONY? And as Tevye? This will be a great year for people of Color at the TONYS as well. Say what you will, but the example for Hollywood will be set by the Tonys this year.

Who cares? Why would this make him a winner? Burr is an immensely heartfelt character as well under all of his broodiness. Go listen to "Dear Theodosia."

^He's been ruled as lead by the administration committee. Probably making the Lead Actor in a Musical race more competitive.

so now we're all hoping for a three way tie in Best Lead Actress in a Musical with Erivo, Mueller & Benanti??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I don't know really. I was just positing the question as to what his chances might be being a multiple nominee but not having won yet.
True that he is up against some stiff competition, and in original roles no less. So maybe it doesn't happen for him.

I would be surprised if Mueller won twice in so short at a time. Especially in a season with so many other strong female performances in her category. Anything is possible, but I still think Ervin will ultimately prevail there.

I've seen all three. Erivo moved me incredibly but so did Mueller. I'm pulling for Jessie a little bit more though. Should they all be nominated, it be interesting to see the "campaigns" that are put together for each. Purple opened a while back and Waitress is currently riding a very early wave of excitement.

Anybody have any thoughts on Supporting Actor? I thought Christopher Fitzgerald was terrific in Waitress, as were most of the guys in Hamilton.

At this early stage I think Featured Actor in a musical is Daveed Diggs' to lose. And then we will have to see how many other Hamilton men can score nominations. Id say Christopher Jackson gets in and maybe Jonathan Groff. If Billy Porter is deemed featured for Shuffle Along, he has a killer act one finale that could get him in.
Then the remaining two slots will have these guys fighting it out: Gavin Creel, Nick Cordero, Joshua Henry, Christopher Fitzgerald, Daniel N. Durant, Andy Mientus, Terrence Mann.

That's an interesting opinion! While I thought Daveed was great, I thought Christopher Jackson's performance was a little stronger. I think it's safe to say that at least those 2 will be nominated (and probably Groff too!)

Jackson is wonderful in HAMILTON, his rendition of "One Last Time" is one of the highlights of the show. Groff is also a scene-stealer and I suspect he will get in as well. But Daveed Diggs' has the audience eating at the palms of his hand every time he is on stage. I think all of the HAMILTON featured actors are deserving but Diggs gets to display the type of electrifying showmanship that Tony voters tend to reward in this category. "What Did I Miss?" is a showstopper if there ever was one and Diggs makes the role his own in such a way that it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role. And that's the stuff award winning performances are made of.

My predictions for Featured Actor include Daveed Diggs, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, and then a three-way fight for the final two slots between Gavin Creel, Billy Porter, and Christopher Fitzgerald. Although the award will absolutely go to a Hamilton man.

Ah I see what you're saying. Yeah I agree his was a little more memorable and flashy, but I still stand by my opinion that Jackson's was a bit more powerful in my book. I think all 3 will get nominations and agree with Concierge that the 3 additional guys will fight for the last 2 spots! This race isn't AS exciting as some of the other categories, but it will be interesting to watch who gets the final 5 noms!

I don't think Groff will get in just because he isn't in the show anymore, and some Tony voters probably still have yet to see it. I'd like the nominees to be Diggs, Jackson, Fitzgerald, Porter, and Creel, but I loved Groff's performance and would love to be proven wrong!

All of the Tony voters have definitely seen Hamilton by now.
