How about we put a moratorium on all Wicked/Rent lyrics in this thread - rather than just rehashing the same lyrics. Over. And over. And over. And over....

Bat Boy: "And we kissed with no tongue"
That's off Broadway... does it count?
"So God damn continental" is a perfect line for that song. You're just too young to recognize it.
Were you refering to me or TheVolleyBaller, because I think its a fine line. Very drly delivered. (Not as funny as some of the other lines though).
the VolleyBaller. I never thought it was supposed to be so funny - more of a simple statement of fact. It was a way of describing how sophisticated Lawrence was to her. What a perfect statement coming from Muriel from Omaha!

Blame it on your dadilly and mamilly
'Cause depression runs in our family.
"What a perfect statement coming from Muriel from Omaha!"
*sigh* Muriel from Omaha.
"Secrets! There's a little rumor/someone's got a tumor... etc."
That whole mess of a song from "In My Life."

RENT- "Angel's death will be in vain/ what are you insane?"
"I'll call/I hate the fall"
PRODUCERS- "That's the rule, I'm no fool"

Hmm, okay. I just thought it was some kind of funny joke that I didn't get, since I seemed to miss how Lawrence could be described as 'continental.' Just didn't click with me.
I really don't want to read all 12 pages so if someone said these already then sorry.
"With no further adieu-do, let's do-do some dancing" from Hairspray (as much as I love that show that line annoys the crap out of me)
"You're perfect!" "You're perfect!" from Wicked (Dancing Through Life) - maybe it's just the way it's said but it's sooo cheesy

"i believe my heart, and my heart believes in me..." -Woman in White
egh! i think ALW was a little bored while he was writing that!
grr, the lyric is "maybe if you try, Angel's death won't be in vain/his death is in vain/are you insane?" I agree, let's just end any and all RENT/Wicked lyrics
I don't know if this has been said already but-
"I don't taake no additude when I know I"ve been screwed! Carrie White's gotta lot to regret" from Carrie the Musical. I really love some of Carrie but this lyric is the worst
I have to say, the lyrics to "I Should Tell You" are by no means brilliant, but when you actually get peopl ein the roles who are good actors (good luck with that...), it really does make every bit of sense.
I agree with the "You'll See Boys" line.
From Annie:
WHen you wake
Ring for Drake
Drake will bring your tray
When you're through
Mrs. Pew
Comes to take it away.
JESUS, that's BAD.
"Let's start at the very beginning
A Very good place to start."
~The Sound of Music
After reading this thread, though, I'm still convinced there's nothing worse than "Look at her; she's wicked. Get her!"

"Something is really (Something's not right)
Really wrong!
...And we gotta get things back where they belong!"
-"Stick to the Status Quo" from HSM
The one lyric in that musical that SCHTINKS to high heaven.
About the "Something's not right". I wanna be like..."OKAY WE GET IT! No need to tell us twice! Jysus Chreest."
WickedGeek, I know that, but I think Maureen had originally intended to have a paper plate to use. Something. I don't know where I heard that... but I guess it makes sense, cutting a paper plate to make a crescent moon?
Oh, okay. I still don't get it lol
someone explained it after that. Joanne's saying to cut, as in nix, the paper plate from the show, therefore its not there.
I don't remember who dissed Gershwin, but I love him. He rhymed Easterner with be sterner, what's not to love?!
I never had a problem with "Nessa, uh Nessa I've got something to confess, a" but yes, "Look at her, she's wicked, get her!" pretty much ruins the song for me.
Yeah and how does the ensemble appear out of nowhere in that little room durring that lyric?

Thanks for clearing it up for me! I needed that. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!
ok. i love the MUSIC, as in score/melodies/harmonies, of SIDE SHOW, but there are so many bad lyrics...
"Come look at the freaks,
come gape at the geeks..."
"You can lie to yourself, I won't. No one could love a siamese twin. Nobody wants us, no one ever has, no one ever will!....Wake up, look around you. We are FREAKS, stuck together..."
and so many others...blech.
""Secrets! There's a little rumor/someone's got a tumor... etc."
That whole mess of a song from "In My Life.""
I will F* you up!
And Carrie is perfect.
Attitude/Screwed! GREAT STUFF!
God damnit, that effing lyric has not only probably been quoted in this thread already, it's been quoted on the page already!
I'd like to add rumor-tumor to the ban list.
"Nazareth's most famous son
Should have stayed a great unknown
Like his father carving wood
He'd have made good
Tables, chairs and oaken chests
Would have suited Jesus best
He'd have caused nobody harm
No one alarm"
Such a great song and yet I hate this part. The lyrics are just silly.
From "I'll Never Have That Chance" Lestat
"I could have easily loved a man,
And felt his kisses deep and moist;
Instead I get this kiss of death.
And in this I have no choice"
Okay, it's beautiful until it get to MOIST. Ugg. During the performance I literally was like "Wait. What? Moist? Huh? Can't they change that one word before the show opens? Cause it just ruins the song in my opinion.
