Also, don't forget that Pippa had to sing this score within a radius of about 3 yards of flat ground, while Denee has had to sing it while running up and down an insane amount of stairs and an exponentially larger playing space. Perspective! haha

For the 1981 revival Elizabeth Taylor was nominated for Best Actress for Regina and Maureen Stapleton for Featured Actress for Birdie. Obviously the committee could rule differently, but that's where the precedent currently stands in regards to how the roles were categorized in the past (and the 81 revival is the only time that any actresses have received acting nominations for the show, the original production pre-dated the Tony Awards, and the revivals in 1967 and 1997 did not receive any nominations for the actresses).

Sweat and Indecent's casts seem to be missing, as well as Chris Cooper in Doll's House. Not sure about any of the placement of the performers here, though. Indecent is very much an ensemble.

Also: Slattery in the Front Page as leading. And I'd be shocked if Nathan Lane is put into Featured. He may not be in the first act, but once he enters, he never leaves the stage... and dominates the production.

Thanks for the feedback, Kad! I edited as much as I could (though I honestly don't have as much knowledge about Sweat or Indecent to fill in the categories on my own...any suggestions would be appreciated!).

And though I agree with your point on Lane, the Tony committee ruled that he'll be considered as Featured.

Thanks for the lineup, BroadwayConcierge. I find it incredibly refreshing to see so many more leading actresses on Broadway than actors. And what a line up of women! Incredible.

Who's currently the front runner for best actor? Does Glick have a chance??

It seems to me (having not seen the play yet) Jefferson Mays for Oslo seems like he has a solid chance. I think Glick is highly likely for a nomination, and I would love to see him win- I think it's the most impressive male performance of the season, honestly.

I really liked Oslo, and Mays' performance, but I can't see him winning for it. His role just doesn't have enough meat to it.

Oh! I totally missed that ruling, my apologies! I strongly disagree with them, but whatever.

Sweat is hard- I think it could be argued Johanna Day and Michelle Wilson would be leading, along with Will Pullen and Khris Davis. That's how the producers, at least, are submitting them for other awards. I see the argument for it.

Indecent, I'd say everyone is featured.

I'm really in doubt about Actress in a Play, first I thought that Blanchett didn't had a chance, but now I believe that she has. I was hoping this to be Linney's year, but that doesn't seems to be happening. We still have Janney in a very bait role tho.

Denee had done the ART engagement pre-Broadway so I don't think the comparisons are "unfair". But even without Pippa's version to compare with, I'd gladly say that Denee's performance is Tony worthy.

Since set design was mentioned, I think The Front Page was done quite well. As for musicals, it will be a crime if The Great Comet doesn't win that category.

I agree with Kad that Lane should have been ruled leading. Sure next to Slattery, his character's secondary - but overall, he's the one the show actually revolves around.

With the report's of Charlie's sets, I think The Great Comet's chances of winning best scenic design went from 90% to 99%.

DEH might possibly be a spoiler, provided the big use of projection falls more under scenic than lighting design.

Even so, I could see The Great Comet sweeping the creative awards.

Granted I'm not an Evan Hansen fan, but it would be ludicrous for it to win scenic design over Comet. In all honesty, I'd be surprised if it were even nominated- it's a fine, effective set, but nothing about it stands out as being especially remarkable. 

The only thing I think could be a threat(design-wise) is Hello, Dolly, which I haven't seen, but by reports seems to have spared no expense and is gorgeous.

I think Best Leading Actress is still very much a toss up at this point.  Noblezada is great in Saigon, but we can't say she's definitely in. Altomare and Osnes i'm sure are terrific in their shows, and we can't say they're definitely out. It will be interesting to see if Denee Benton gets a nod. Although I do think all four of those ladies have a better shot than Philippa Soo at this point.
