Just for the record, I worship Donna Murphy.

Couldn't agree more, Priest and Meliss.

Donna is wonderful.

I adore Donna Murphy. If you're just basing your opinion on her just from "Wonderful Town", that's ridiculous, considering that role didn't show her full vocal range at all. She was amazing in "Passion".

I also adore Ben Vereen and think he is a god.

As far as this thread goes, I don't see the big deal about Kristin Chenoweth. Or Rebecca Luker.

Gosh.. I'm just gonna say it again, but Donna Murphy has more talent then all of these other people combined. I want you to try what she does and then say it... you watch her and you know she's giving it all for that performance.
Hmm... I don't know who's overrated... that was just what I wanted to say.

YES...FINALLY

Matthew Broderick - I saw him in The Foreigner...is British accent is horrible...he was kind of funny...but didn't leave you with that, "he's the only one who could play that role" feeling...

And Harvey is good ONLY at big comedic roles....

Idina Menzel is the personification of overrated, at least on this board. But that's not entirely her fault- who can live up to the absolute worship people give her here?

I know a lot of people adore this person so I ask for your forgiveness in advance.

MANDY PATINKIN

He is a great actor don't get me wrong. If he was in a straight play, I would definetly would want to see him. If he was in a musical that was nothing but lower notes, then I would want to see him. But, his airy, annoying sounding falsetto grates on my every single nerve. **Shudders**

I think the term overrated is overrated....

It is not the performer's fault...it is the fans...

Well, some people are all too good at self-promotion. I realize this isn't a theatrical example, but Curt Schilling leaps to mind. There's a good chance he'll make the Hall of Fame when he really doesn't deserve to, just because he knows how to work the press.

Also, Ben Vereen gets on my nerves. I mean, he is a great dancer and one of the best Fosse protegies (sp?) but I watched him on the FOSSE dvd and it is like he takes all the attention off the other dancers and puts it on himself. I mean, he was always one beat ahead of everyone. I don't know if that was intentional but that is what I got from it.

As Gov said, how can there be so many opinions about one voice?

I adore Patinkin's upper register.

ok, here is my main problem. For one, his upper register is not powerful at all. Second of all, he goes into it WAY to early. Songs where people are in their chest voice, he automatically switches to his falsetto. Take "Lily's Eyes" if you will. The other guy sounds powerful and emotional and then all of a sudden you hear a weak, airy falsetto. GAG....can't stand it. ALSO, when he sings in his falsetto it sounds the same in EVERY single show he does. There is no difference at all. Does that make sense?

first off, let me say that I LOVE HER...but: idina menzel, as many have previously stated. Yes, the woman is amazing and very, very talented, but no goddess...some wicked fans/ rent heads get a little out of control sometimes..

I find great variety in his voice from show to show.
And I think the airy quality suits the character of Archibald so well. He acts/sings the hell out of that score.

He and Westenberg compliment each other nicely.

I agree...I like Idina Menzel, but she really is no goddess. She's certainly talented, though, but there are about 100 singers in New York who are better than her.

It just amazes me what a polarizing voice Patinkin has.
People either adore it or hate it.
