Well I did feel it was negative. I did not see one glimmer of anything positive. Yes we are meant to love it, hate it, argue about it, etc. Isn't that what we are doing? I enjoyed it...Wannabe didn't. I am just surprised that we were in the same theatre tonight seeing the same show because what he posted does not resemble the show I saw in the slightest.

What language was it in?

You're surprised someone thinks very differently than you do?
Why don't we get back to talking about the show rather than attacking each other personally!

Could you say that without the accent? I couldn't understand you.
ALLO, GUB'NUH!
Well, this isn't the first review of the show where they couldn't find anything nice to say. Smell a trend?
It's in Queen, Kringas. Your native tongue.

I washed me 'ands and face before ah come ah did!
There was not one second that Stephanie looked bored.
She totally believes in this part and her work.

Weirdly enough, I though she sounded British in Wicked.
Thank you Curtain
That's what I was trying to say. I believe that whole heartedly (and I don't think I was being defensive when I said it earlier)

This thread made my night.
Stephanie Block isn't British? Wow, she is a good actress!

I have to say I laughed out loud reading more than once.
I wish I had been in the theater tonight like everyone else. Who knows what I would have seen!
Me too! The San Pellegrino Limonata can only make me so cheery.
I did hear Stephanie say the F-word towards the beginning of Act 1...or at least that's what it sounded like.

Did she say it in an American, British or Irish accent? If American, can you give me specific diphthongs?
I was also at the preview tonight. It sounded to me like they had Irish accents. (Well I honestly can't remember if Stephanie J. Block had an accent but the other characters all did.)
Also this is just a nitpick, but your timing was off. The first act ended exactly at 9:30 (after starting about 20 minutes late) and the second act ran til around 10:40-10:45.
It did feel a lot longer though!
Oh one other thing, I couldn't stand how similar some of the music was to both Les Miserables & Martin Guerre. There were several songs that could have been pulled directly from those two shows.

"Retire it, Queen!" is going to be my new catchphrase.

I'm surprised there were any posts at all on this board between 8 pm and 11 pm. Apparently we were all at the Hilton theater tonight. No wonder it seemed so crowded. As I remarked to a friend at the theater, having seen Pirate Queen twice in Chicago I'm having a difficult time forming an opinion about the new improved version. I was very critical of PQ during its Chicago run. I thought the book and lyrics and direction were all abysmal.
Tonight I saw an entertaining, well crafted evening of theater with some great dancing, some strong performances, especially from Hadley Fraser, and a few pretty songs. It didn't change my life, but it sure beat watching "American Idol." The show has made incredible strides, especially in Act 1. The characters have motivations now, things happen for a reason, and I now care about what's going on. (Remember, I'm only talking about Act 1 here.) Once the Christening ended in Act 2 and the endless parade of ballads began with Tiernan's "Surrender" I felt that the show derailed. In fact my impression was that they just hadn't gotten around to fixing up the last 20 minutes yet.
The group of Long Island ladies sitting in front of me told that they loved the show, and someone else told me they thought it was better than Phantom. (I suppose that's damning with faint praise around here).
Is it my imagination or are the people who saw this in Chicago saying it is vastly improved and a rather enjoyable show compared to the previous incarnation, and the people who are seeing it for the first time in NY are saying it pretty much sucks?
At any rate, the difference of opinion is still a wide margin, as it was in Chicago, but mostly not so good. Too bad, because I thought they were going to revise the entire show before brining it in, and now people are saying, "Hey, they got four weeks to fix it!" No, they HAD months to fix it. Now it is just fine tuning what they have. It won't get much better than what you are seeing right now, I suspect.
