Was this the case with The Band's Visit last year as well? Seems odd, of course Ive never seen Hadestown but I cant imagine the show is that different to nominate only those portions of it.

I guess I’ll just never understand the love for this Oklahoma.

The rule about Broadway transfers being ineligible (except for new elements) has been around, and DID apply to The Band’s Visit.

Hadestown is an unusual case in that about 99% of the production elements are entirely different from the Off-Broadway production. New sets, new lighting, new staging, new choreography, etc. And even in the direction, Chavkin’s overal vision for the show has changed a lot. That’s why those are considered new elements. You say you can’t imagine them being that different from each other, and for most other shows you’d probably be right. But in this case, they really are that different!

I am amazed that none of Tootsie's supporting actors garnered nominations. I expected at least 2 of Behlmann, Grotelueschen, and Rogers to snag a nomination.

Well, you have to remember, the pool is much larger for these awards (both offf and on B'way)

He certainly was. Assuming that if by "standout" you mean it stood out as one of the worst performances to appear on any stage. Ever.

"

This is easily one of the more asinine things I've read on these boards. I thought he was phenomenal, but even if one disagrees, the worst performance ever on a stage? Laughable.

Overall I'm surprised TKAM and All My Sons were so overlooked. Very strange re Hadestown, I assume that Gray and Page simply were ineligible. Still the Oklahoma! love here is strong- 5 acting nominations, and I expect to see something similar next week.

HUGE congrats to Sydney James Harcourt. I didnt see GFNC but he was a fantastic Burr and GW in Hamilton.

"IM SO THRILLED for Sydney James Harcourt!! He sang one of my favorite songs in the show and was just fantastic.

That may be true, but I still would have given any of those Tootsie performers nominations over Corbin Bleu.

This is the only award where they have not been eligible. Amber is nominated for both a Drama League award and an OCC award. Don't see how that doesn't bode well for Tony chances.

But not only is this the only one where they are ineligible, I just don't see why other awards having them ineligible would at all affect their Tony chances. Why would it?

I think they are both almost locks for Tony nominations (especially considering how Tonys are only Broadway, not Off). I do not think Amber Gray will win, though, with Ali Stroker in the category.

I cannot find a live stream, either!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
