I think Lady Gaga would be an inspired choice for Elphaba. She can definitely sing the role, and I think she could do wonders in the acting department... as long as she's not afraid to step out of her 'comfort' zone a little bit. (although I can't imagine any of those outfits are very comfortable)
I'd also love to see a change between actors at 'intermission', where some actors (Lea Michele? Aaron Tviet? unknowns?) play the young characters and other actors (Idina, Matthew Morrison?) play their older selves for the second half. It would make a lot of sense if they adjusted the book to make the gap between Defying Gravity and Thank Goodness a long one. Then again, they'd have to adjust a lot of the book for this to make sense on screen. Updated On: 7/11/10 at 11:14 PM
i genuinly like the Lady Gaga idea....but only her voice...MEGA Gaga fan here! but does she look like Elphaba? Will the outfits be Hilferty or Hous of Gaga? hahaha but the voice...wow! imagine her singing No Good Deed!
i REALLY want Wicked to be a movie...but not soon. 2015? i know its a long time away but, in realistics, it makes sense! haha
also casting for other parts....personally (which ahs nothing to do with ACTUAL casting) i'd prefer it to be genuine talent...and not "names" to sell it....It's selling out every night, Broadway and West End, i don't know about other productions, but i can only guess they sell out as well! AND when a new film comes out thousands of people will see it out of curiousity!....combine them both and its practically a hit already at the cinema! haha
even if it is a flop film, or it's just in general bad...it'd be good to have a movie version to watch when ever! like Hairspray/Chicago/Gypsy etc
no...they were basically a film of what you seen on stage (apart from rent, it made a lot of changes) but the producers was basically what you seen on stage. (i love the producers though, regardless of the flop it was lol)
make changes to it before making it into a film. the book imo is kindy messy in Wicked. could tidy up or even elaborate, because it's a film.
Aren't these supposed to be college-age students/witches/whatevers? Ok, so it's Oz so it may be a bit different. But Matthew Morrison and Idina look a tad older than your standard university student. I'd rather see someone closer to age.
Why is no one throwing Zefron out there for Fiyero? He meets the age and singing requirement and has a name to back it. Lea is the right age for Elphaba, but ehhhh.... I think she's a bit overworked/overexposed right now so I'd hope for someone else.

TheKandyLife, the book is "kindy messy"? The book is a big ugly mess! They would need to completely rewrite it for it to have any redeeming qualities. Only the occasional joke works, but the serious scenes don't, in my opinion. As for who should play in it, I love Idina, but she's too old, I like Lea, but no, I think an unknown would be best.
I think WICKED probably covers a good ten years -- you probably want actors in mid twenties to be able to pull it all off believably. Let Lea Michelle do it fine - just keep her away from the Funny Girl revival.
Edna Turnblad: i was just being kind lol i know it's all over the place, just thought i'd be nice haha
and in thinking...this comment is going to get slated and attacked but, If it came to it and they chose Idina for the role or someone of that age range, they could use make-up a d certain camera techniques to make them more youthful. and then different make up when they reach the older age stages. you might think it won't work, but i come from a family who are in the movie industry as make up artists, and camera technitions etc, and was in an in-depth conversation about it, and they said it could work, "probably" haha
