I've been following this. Didn't know it was finally confirmed. I wonder if they will recast Samantha or some other ridiculous plot point? It would be foolish to kill the character off, but that could be a final FU by SJP to Kim Cattrall. I think the producers and SJP are underestimating the popularity of Kim Cattrall and Samantha.
I have thought if it came back as movie it could center around the girls dealing with the death of Samantha. I honestly think it could be touching, bitter sweet and funny.
I don't know what happened behind the scenes other than rumors, but Cattrall's public statements are the only ones that are bitter. I think that says a lot about the cause of the drama. Just my speculation.
My friend said she heard a rumor they’re recasting Samantha with Sharon Stone. I laughed because it’s obviously a “joke rumor” and then I thought “Well wait hold on a second....”
There is talk of replacing her with a woman of color, a whole different character.
I don't think the title change has anything to do with KC. Obviously, not all three women will still be married but they are in a totally different place in their lives now. They won't be running around the city looking for a boyfriend to have kids with, clearly, so it needed a different title.

Someone tweeted that they should just recast her with Jane Krakowski.
I’m curious what stories they feel need to be told by these women at this time. People are saying that Chris Noth inferred that Big will be dead. That’s one way to change things up. Especially since Carrie was such a miserable shrew in the last film. An insufferable spoiled brat who was mad she had to eat take out from 5 star restaurants in her stunning penthouse. The last movie really jumped the shark for Carrie. The writers have their work cut out for them.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
Treat the second film like the last season of Roseanne and pretend it never happened.
I actually watched it again last week because I was bored and curious (I’d only seen it once in the theater...sigh, I miss theaters) and was amazed again at how awful it was and how they managed to make Carrie even worse. Poor princess throws a hissy fit because her husband wants to watch tv in bed after working all day, instead of going out every single night. The movie became a story about ridiculously rich people getting pissed about things that only bother ridiculously rich people.
I think they could just make a brief mention of Samantha living in another country and leave it at that. I am sure they will add some fun supporting characters. This is off topic but Kyra Sedgwick deserved better than Call Your Mother.
Did Carrie ever talk about her family or her parents? I wasn't a diehard but I don't recall that ever really being part of her story. I always thought it would be interesting if one of the films had explored that and why she didn't have much of a relationship with them.

Tag, In one of the episodes, she asked either all of the girls or just one, (can't remember) if the reason she has bad relationships with men was due to the relationship she had with her Father. There was a generalized response and then it wasn't addressed again.
There was also a short-lived prequel series called The Carries Diaries in 2013, which depicted Carrie's life in high school. From what I remember, on that show, she had a positive relationship with her dad, who was a single parent after the death of her mom. However, the show can't really be taken as "canon" as it constantly contradicted backstory hinted at from the original show.
As for who might replace Kim Cattrall, I think Vanessa Williams would be the ideal fit.

I would prefer they use someone with less notoriety. But Again I do not think they need to replace her.
SJP already said the 4th character will be NYC, as it should be.
Carrie's Dad left the family when she was 5. Her Mom died, her Father is still living. No siblings, and no the made up sister in The Carrie Diaries doesn't count.
Actually, to my surprise years later, The Golden Girls were in, Season 1, only in their mid 50's. I always thought of them as years older. Rue was only 52 years old, during the first season. Betty White and Bea Arthur's characters stated in an episode in Season 1, as ages 55 and 56. (I bought Season 1 on dvd for a $1 at the 2019 Broadway Flea Market, so have watched it in full recently). SJP is currently 55. No comparison to what these ladies looked like then and what 55 looks like today.
