He was so great in Falsettos and that was like an all star cast comprised of four people who basically won Tonys the next day after leaving Falsettos (Except Christian Borle who won the day before)
The ability for a twelve year old to stand up to and actually share the stage with legends like Stephanie J. Block, Andrew Rannells, Brandon Uranowitz, and Christian Borle is amazing
And Jason is like the heart of the show
Just an amazing performance
Lots of Jasons have been awesome, Anthony Roth Costanzo and the Tony nominated Jonathan Kaplan come to mind, but neither of those two went onto be in Leopoldstadt, which Anthony did
Although now Anthony Roth Costanzo is an operatic countertenor so hmmmm
Edit: Somebody get on writing a Leopoldstadt opera
Who can ever forget Fun Home’s Tony-nominated Sidney Lucas? Now 20, she revealed on the recent virtual concert that she’s now attending medical school.
Back when the original four Matildas were on Broadway, I remember an interview with someone (Matthew Warchus maybe?) saying their goal was that each person seeing the show thought they had seen the best Matilda. So maybe that was the case. But I saw Oona Laurence and I was really, really impressed by her performance.
I am surprised that Andrea MacArdle hasn’t already been mentioned. I would also siggest Frankie Michaels in Mame and David Alvarez, who I thought was the best of the three original Billy Elliott’s.
Of course, I could cheat and suggest Celia Keenan-Bolger in TKAM.
