Yeah I was curious what this was. They don't list any creatives which is odd.

I have doubts as to whether this is any sort of adaptation of ALW's Phantom at all.

If indeed it is Phantom of the Opera no matter how good it is, it will be accused of just jumping on the Sunset Boulevard/Cts deconstructions. Sometimes unoriginal is worse than bad.

If it is truly immserive and you're walking through the bowels of the Paris Opera house... that could be fun.

When did Hugh Panaro lead an immersive Phantom workshop???

Personally, I hope this flops massively and that whoever is cast gets recognition and a better gig. We all know what happened in London, and this is the same but slightly more creative.

‘Kay. So glad we didn’t have to wait until the thing is even announced before we get to read your review.

Wait what happened in London? The West End production getting stripped down from the Hal Prince original? This seems kind of apples and oranges to me, though of course claims of a show being "immersive" are more often than not comically exaggerated.

Rumors are this is being directed by Punchdrunk, the OG folks behind Sleep No More. Considering SNM is closing soon and Emusive's latest project just opened, it makes sense to take this show to NYC if possible. Wonder if they just take up residency in the McKittrick again or find a new space. I feel pretty confident based on Punchdrunk's comments that this won't be a masked show again (aka SNM).

Well, I'd hope there'd be at least one mask! Actually, considering "Masquerade" there'd better be many masks.

In 2020, the London production, like Les Miz the year before, was essentially replaced by the staging of the touring production.

From a private POTO Facebook group:

”I just asked Paul Adam Schaefer what is going on. He was Raoul and Phantom on Broadway … He was involved in the workshops and said it wouldn't even be in a theatre. A  6th floor building in 57th street that was converted into an event space! He said it would be a massive build!!!!  …”

This seems so weird to me.  Why would Cameron mackintosh agree to this?  Wouldn’t he make more money by just doing a scaled down version of the original and put it in a smaller theatre back on Broadway?

This seems a million times more interesting than a scaled-down proscenium stage revival. I’m excited.

It closed because people were bored of it and ticket sales were down. Why put the same thing back on again when you can do something much more interesting

Whatever happened to the Peacock show which was supposed to be a murder mystery backstage at a production of Phantom? If that's still moving forward I wonder if this is somehow being tied to that.

I highly doubt this is the rumored Punchdrunk production. Their name isn’t anywhere in the casting/hiring notices, and it’s being managed and cast by (as far as I can tell) non-Punchdrunk affiliates. The GM for it - Evan Bernardin Productions - was the producer of the immersive productions of Kerrigan and Lowdermilk’s The Bad Years. They’re still a bit of a fledgling company and I doubt they’re taking on a client as high profile as Punchdrunk, who I believe GM and cast their own productions.

Also, the Sleep No More-style immersive shows of Punchdrunk or Third Rail or Emursive don’t use Equity contracts. Equity has no contracts for shows like those, which would basically require bespoke contracts for every production due to their demands (and become wildly cost prohibitive).
