There hasn't been any mention (that I've heard) of updating the show. It wouldn't make any sense in 2005 -- last I checked there haven't many battles between Irish and Puerto Rican gangs lately.

Which guys? Mitchell was the choreographer for Fully Monty (Tony nom), Rocky Horror, Charlie Brown, Hairspray (Tony Nom), Never Gonna Dance (Tony nom), and the upcoming Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and La Cage revival. He's also the creator (and up until last year the choreographer) of the annual Broadway Bares Concert. He'll be co-directing the Hairspray movie with Jack O'Brien (who won the Tony for directing the stage version). The WSS revival will, I believe, mark Mitchell's Broadway directing debut.
I'm assuming you know who Jerome Robbins is (please god, tell me you do ...........)

Supposedly they talked to David Miller about it back when he was doing Bohème on Broadway, but with his propensity for cancelling things at the last minute, they may not want to stick with him if he's still in consideration...
Jerome Robbins was "Yentl"? hmm...it's all falling into place now.

Isn't that Barbra Steissand's role? You know, the Jewish role she played...

i doubt raul would play a part as small as Bernardo--and i doubt he could handle the dance in that show--maybe for a short run, but not the grind of a Bway run....he's also a little old for a street kid...
There is serious consideration by TPTB at the moment to postpone this Broadway revival so that it can coincide with the 50th anniversary of the show in 2007. Also Jerry has several other projects in hand (including the Hairspray film) in the next year or so.
i have insider info, and there is none!!, the producers are currently working on a big show and they are putting this on the back burner for a while, however they have aquired the rights. SO STOP TALKING ABOUT IT< lol
