"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."
They were on ABC's Good Morning America. They did the weather periodically throughout the show, and they did a debate during the final half hour that lasted maybe 5 minutes. Rick Lyon did President Bush, and Jennifer Barnhart did John Kerry. The GMA anchor asked the questions, but at the 1:00 performance, the questioning will be handled by "Log Cabin" republican Rod. I was really impressed with Jennifer Barnharts voice impersonization of Sen. Kerry. Many of the jokes were as one might imagine, Sen. Kerry not being too sure, and President Bush just didn't want to face up to the fiasco that's occuring in Iraq. At one point Pres. Bush fell asleep during Sen. Kerry's comments. I'm glad I got see them on tv, they were terrific! And I'm sorry I didn't tape it. Also, if there is a vidio of the full thing, I too would like to be PM'd. I think lots of others would be interested too.
i was so glad i got to see it on tv b/c unfortunately i can't go. i would also like to be notified if anyone it taping outside today or recording or w/ pictures. it's raining now though in nj. is it in ny? do you think they'll do it anyway or possible reschedule?

It was very cute, despite the rain. The only major trouble that caused was making it hard to see if you weren't right at the front, because all the umbrellas got in the way.
There were a several media cameras (both still and video), so I wouldn't be surprised if a tape shows up somewhere online.
The whole cast was involved with John (as Rod) as host (sans umbrella and getting wet...), Jen as Kerry, Rick as Bush (great puppets and voices! Cute idea of having secret service men to hold their umbrellas). The rest of the cast (including understudies) were there with questions from humans and puppets.
"Tear it Up" (cut from the show, but gets sung by Jeff and Robert a lot) was re-written about Bush getting rid of his duties as a National Guard as well as getting rid of the Constitution. (Earlier, he stumbled several times over the ability to prounounce said document.)
Most of the cast left soon afterwards, looking for someplace dry, but a few hing around to chat and shake hands.
All in all, a great publicity event for the show that has apparently gotten them a lot of national exposure. Good for them!
yay! thanks for the reviews everyone. i really appreciate it so much! if anyone has any pictures for the event or finds video anywhere online please let me know. i'll look too and do the same. maybe ave q will post it on their website.

The debate was a fabulous and funny success. Rick Lyons' very creative and quick with creating the Kerry and Bush puppets. Kerry serenading Bush with "If You Were Gay" was so funny. Hilarious. I can't wait to see the photos from the debate.
Kerry for President. Avenue Q rocks. Congrats to the new kid at Q who does the lottery. He played a secret agent today. A great kid! Updated On: 9/30/04 at 02:29 PM
Thanks for the reports. I only got to see them on Good Morning America, and yes, the Bush and Kerry puppets were great! Hopefully, some sites will do a photo-op so we all can see.
Forgot to mention that (I'm assuming) due to the rain, they had some sound glitches. Ultimately, towards the beginning of the last number, the music just went out. Mikes still worked, though, and they plowed ahead without missing a beat. Sounded quite nice a capella, actually.
It was great fun. Despite the rain. Everybody was in a good mellow mood, and the cast were troupers. As to the Bush & Kerry puppets, what can I say - Rick Lyon is a genius...and Jen is a goddess! :) And the re-written lyrics for "If You Were Gay" (sung by Kerry to Bush) "If you were queer...I would not smear" among them - were very, very funny.
I was right up in front and was lucky enough to have seen the puppet-less rehearsal, but by the time of the show there were a lot of cameraas and umbrellas blocking the view. I have a pretty strong feeling that tapes will turn up.
The rain really poured down during "Vote Your Heart" so there was no music - the cast (including Barett as Princeton & Aymee as Trekkie) sang it without accompiament - and damn brilliantly too.
