Has everyone heard of the generic way of getting a stage name? You are supposed to take your middle name then your street name...Anyways, I love mine according to that! So thats my name in lights! :)
In the early stages of my acting "career" I went by the name "Lawrence Rogers" (Carol Lawrence and Ginger Rogers), it later bacame "Channing Rogers" (Carol Channing and Ginger Rogers). However, when I realized that my longish Italian last name took up more space in the programs, I decided to keep my given name when I performed.
I think that the choice should be an individual choice because it is completely dependant on the person who's name it affects. What do ya'll think about using nicknames as stage names? I.E. Jon instead of Jonathan or Mike instead of Michael? And how about the lengths of names? Should one try to lengthen the first name or be content with a three letter name? I myself have chosen to go by Dee as opposed to Dena because I haven't been called Dena in years and the name symbolizes some hard times to me. I have been told that Dee is too short but I think that it flows well with my last name. What do ya'll think? Oh and my last name is Beider (By-der).
I use a name on my art work that is different from my real name. The reasons being that my own last name is difficult to spell even when I spell it for people and it oi very hard to pronounce correctly. The most imporatnt reason I use a different name is for privacy and security. My name and bio are used when I have a gallery exhibit and on my website so i perefer that people not be able to track me down. I actually had a stalker incident once when someone got my real name and looked up my address. So, as an actor, I would absolutly have a stage name.
Yeah but, a lot of people have trouble with teh spelling. They can't seem to figure out whether to use the traditional spelling or the Americanized version.
Ms. Common Last Name, try turning Brit and spelling it "Smythe"
i heard the thing about the street you were born on (or mother's maiden), but for porn, along with one of your childhood pet's names, so i'd be:
Queenie Disston (she-male) Cinnamon Disston (vixen/vamp) Sugar Disston (corruptible prep school girl) Pepper Pike (male OR female hot nympho) Paine Pike (S/M daddy stud)
etcetera ( feel free to mix & match---Cinnamon Paine?)...like those any better than Trey Hampton? *wink*

I also heard that you're supposed to use your middle name as your first name and the street where you grew up as your last name. I have a great middle name, but considering the fact that my street name is "East Broadway", I don't think that method would work for me. I actually have a famous last name (not actually related to anyone famous), but as far as I know nobody in Equity or SAG uses my name. Though if I were to become an actress, I might just drop my last name all together and just used my First and Middle without changing it...even though my middle name could not possibly be a last name. But hey, does Cher use her last name! I think not.

A "game" going around a while back had ya taking the name of your first pet and adding the name of the street in your first address--this was for your porn film name. Lady Moulton was how mine turned out, but I don't think I'll be using it any time soon .

Haha! Dollypop -- when I was younger I had planned on changing my last name to Rogers too, after Ginger. :)
Speaking of stage names, if anyone had a stage name, it was Miss Rogers. Her real name was Virginia Katherine McMath. Rogers was her stepdad's last name and Ginger came from her baby cousin who couldn't pronounce Virginia -- Ginja. :)
I think its interesting how people come up with stage names if they have them. Debbie Reynolds was just renamed completely. LOL!

I heard the porn name thing with your first pet and the first street you lived on. Mine would be Tasha DeWitt...it almost sounds porn-ish lol. As far as the middle name-street where you grew up thing i'd be Leigh Throckmorton...now that's sexy lol.
"I'm sorry, you must've mistaken me for somebody else. My name is Anastasia Beaverhausen."
But if you use a stage name all the people who told you “You’ll never make it in this Biz” could not eat their plate of crow because they would not know it was you!
Another famous stage name...Judy Garland. Much better than Francis Gumm.
let's see, my porn name would be "Dallas East" interesting, or "Dallas Broadway", but I think East works better. LOL I don't get any fun names I'll just have to get creative!
