I was thinking lately that a lot of my Broadway cast recordings share performers. I choose my albums based on the shows, not the singers, but I guess I'm just drawn to some performers. Or some performers are drawn to shows that I am also drawn to, I don't know. But I thought this would make an interesting discussion.
Who do you have on multiple recordings in your collection?
I have: Idina (Rent and Wicked) Adam Pascal (Rent and Aida) Norbert (Wicked and DRS) Sherie Rene Scott (DRS and Aida)
I'm sure there are more, but I don't know the names of all the ensemble members and I don't have the CD booklets with me. It would be really interesting to see if any of the chorus members are the same.
So, who shows up multiple times in your Broadway collection?
Nothing matters but knowing nothing matters. ~ Wicked
Everything in life is only for now. ~ Avenue Q
There is no future, there is no past. I live this moment as my last. ~ Rent

"Cages or wings, which do you prefer?"-- Tick, Tick...BOOM!
I can't believe I can't think of more Ethel Merman and Julie Andrews. I am pretty sure I don't have many, but I will have to sort through them. There must be people out there with 15 or more Merman recordings. And Jack Cassidy must be up there I just can't think of them. Barbra Streisand would be up there heavily weighted with films I only have 3 OCRs, but there must be more.
Orfeh is on Footloose, Great American Trailer Park, and if we're counting these sort of recordings, she's on The Hair and Dreamgirls Actors'fund benefit Cd's as well. The biggest shame is that there was never an American cast recording of Fever, I would have loved an actual "clean" version of Orfeh singing "If I Can't Have You".

I was not familar with George Rose and was surprised when his name kept popping up. These are not shows I play often.
Orson Bean (3) I guess this qualifies him to be on game show panels: Subways are for Sleeping You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown - Studio Cast Illya Darling
Patti LuPone- Evita, Anything Goes, Sunset Boulevard, Pal Joey, The Baker's Wife, Les Miserables, Patti LuPone Live!, all three of her solo albums and multiple bootlegs (can-can, Les Mouches, The Savoy, The Lady With the Torch, Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda... Pretty much everything she's done that I've been able to get my hands on...
Angela Lansbuy-Gypsy, Mame, Sweeney Todd.
Sherie Rene Scott- The Last Five Years, Aida, DRS
Audra McDonald- Ragtime, Marie Christine
Ethel Merman- Gypsy, Anything Goes, Annie...
Bernadette Peters- Gypsy, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park w/ George.
And Maria Callas, if she counts :P
Theatre is a safe place to do the unsafe things that need to be done.

I find it interesting, because there are some shows like Passion I bought for Sondheim and have never bothered to find out who is in it. I play it at work and just pop in the CD.
Others, like Patti LuPone, Ethel Merman, and Julie Andrews have recorded plenty, but I don't have much. It makes me want to fill in the gaps. I think it is amazing that I have missed Patti LuPone (I only have Evita and Anything Goes) although I have 3 Les Miz (french concept, symphonic, and broadway) and mp3 versions of Dutch, and German, but no London. And two versions of Sunset Blvd. LA and broadway, but no london. I buy almost all used. So, I am sure that it is just a matter of availability. The only show I can remember buying new was Avenue Q at the gift shop after the show in Las Vegas.
Do people try to get the complete recordings of one performer? Complete collection of a composer/lyricist?
This should start a conversation. Someone sees a show in a list they haven't heard of or really like and they respond. The site does not promote that because as far as I can tell even if you respond to a specific post the response goes to the bottom of the list. If it worked like a tree like IMDB conversations could go off on tangents without breaking the flow of the thread.
