I expected grosses to be up a little bit more than they are.

Hey! Company's almost at 50%! That's great! re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/27/2007

"Hey! Company's almost at 50%! That's great!"

While their audience capacity went up, their financial gross for the week went down by over $1,500. Not an awful drop, but it's by no means a good thing.

Oh, I'm wholly aware. I was kidding. The average ticket price was reduced by just over $5, which accounts for the loss.

JESUS, look at Spring Awakening!! 95% capacity???? Guess those Tony noms did help. Also, it's slightly strange is see an entry after Wicked (a.k.a. Xanadu). I am so used to seeing the tallest bar be all the way on the right of the graph, lol. re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/27/2007

PIRATE QUEEN is sinking faster than expected. Without any exposure on the Tony telecast, the show seems doomed.

GREY GARDENS will need several Tonys to boost its sales. I doubt evan a Best Musical Revival Tony will help COMPANY. It's just not an audience-friendly show, and it seems most general theatre-goers (i.e. beyond the passionate theatre fans)want a show that's fun or a retread of a familiar movie.

I do wonder why it took the Tony noms to boost SPRING to 95%. The reviews and advance word-of-mouth shoudl have done that. Makes me think that reviews sell a lot fewer tickets now than in the past.

Very happy to see Spring Awakening in the upper 90's. I'm really pulling for Company and Grey Gardens, but I agree that some Tonys are about the only thing that will boost sales. But yeah... The Pirate Queen just keeps going lower and lower.

I would've though Grey Gardens would've had a boost. Does 10 Tony nominations mean anything to people?

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I am disappointed that "The Revolutionary Costume" is being done on the Tony telecast to represent GREY GARDENS. It's hardly the best or most represenattive number in the score. Also it was showcased on last year's Drama Desk awards and at that point it left me underwhelmed. I think "The 5:15" sequence better captures the essence of the show.

GREY GARDENS will without a doubt get a big boost after its Tony wins.

I couldn't be more thrilled about SPRING AWAKENING! If it's at 95% before the Tonys, come June 11th this is going to become a hard-to-get ticket!

WOOHOO for a JOURNEY'S END bump! I know that it's still closing on June 10th, but at least some more people are actually seeing it and experiencing it.

As for COMPANY -- with the combination of an absolutely electric Tony performance by Raul, a Tony win for Raul and a Best Revival win, I'm hoping that it will get a nice boost past the Tonys and perhaps last at least through July.

Looks like Drowsy Chaperone is beginning to slip up a little, with the new musicals of this season, Spring Awakening, Curtains, Legally Blonde and Mary Poppins stealing it's thunder...

It's weekly op. costs are about $540,000, so, hopefully it won't sink below that for a long time...

Wow! Yay for SA! That's a HUGE jump in capacity from a mere two weeks ago when it was in the low 70's.

A drop for my beloved CURTAINS! I think I'm having a stroke! Nice pick up for Journey's End...now that it's closing! Awakening at 95%, now I'm definitely having a stroke. I know I'm not the only one who didn't care for this show, but jeez it sure feels that way. Congrats to SA's fans just the same. re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/27/2007

I am so glad for SA. That young cast truly deserves it.
I also thought it was weird seeing something after Wicked
I am truly worried about Xanadu. Yeah, they had a 80 some percent but they didn't make crap. Worst gross on broadway.

I am happy that at least some of the shows grosses went up.

Summer has started and the grosses are still anemic. I would have expected a lot of the general interest shows to start picking up but it doesn't look that way.

Summer begins on June 21st. Most elementary, middle, and high school don't get out until the 15th, that is when the grosses should start to pick up.

What would y'all define as general interest shows?

Really, now that the Producers is gone I expect grosses for Mamma Mia, Wicked, Hairspray and Phantom to increase...

Glad to see LOVEMUSIK going up. Sad to see GREY GARDENS go down. I wonder how much money XANADU has to make in a week to break even at a theatre as small as the Helen Hayes.
