The poster does suck, but who cares as long as the show doesn't? And yes, the haters will come, but as more raves keep getting posted the haters will only be more ridiculed and snubbed.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
If you've ever watched any of Ben Brantley's "Theater Minute" videos, Windman sounds exactly like a twenty-year-old Brantley. And I... am not happy about that.
"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."
-Nellie McKay on the 2006 Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, in which she played Polly Peachum
The picture looks ridiculous on the poster. But the blue theme and her name/title in lights looks great. Love the intro on the site. Updated On: 3/27/08 at 05:49 PM
Patti-Haterz, watch out! The Patti Luverz are ready to RUMBLE!
(With apologies to Steve and Lenny)
LuPone is gonna have her day... Tonight! LuPone is gonna have her way... Tonight!
The Patti Haterz grumble: "Fair fight." But if they start a rumble, We'll rumble 'em right.
She's gonna hand 'em a surprise Tonight. She's gonna cut 'em down to size Tonight.
We won't let them upset us, Those pricks! But if they Bernadette us, We're ready to mix-- Tonight!
They're gonna SEE Rose tonight! She's gonna tear it up and have her a ball! She's gonna BE Rose tonight! The more they rag on her, the harder they'll fall!
Well, they began it! Yeah, they began it! But we're the ones to stop 'em once and for all, Tonight!
[PJ sings to ljay]
I'm counting on you to be there Tonight. When Jaystarr wins it fair and square Tonight! That Patti-hatin' punk'll Go down, And when he's hollered "Uncle" We'll tear up the town!
[Miss Pennywise and Sueleen hold hands and sing]
Today the minutes seem like hours, The hours go so slowly, And still the sky is light. Oh moon, grow bright, And make this endless day PATTI'S NIGHT, TONIGHT!
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
"I mean, sitting side by side with another man watching Patti LuPone play Rose in GYPSY on Broadway is essentially the equivalent of having hardcore sex." -Wanna Be A Foster.
"Say 'Goody.' Say 'Bubbi.'" ... "That's it. Exactly as if it were 'Goody.' Now I know you're gonna sing 'Goody' this time, but nevertheless..."
LOL, blaxx. That reminds me of an episode of SEX & THE CITY where Stanford tells Carrie, "I haven't had good sex since CATS opened on Broadway." I think Murray may have inspired the line.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
"but forgoes the opportunity to instead deliver one of the most disgustingly self-indulgent performances in recent Broadway history"
LOL
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

I COMPLETELY disagree with Murray on almost every aspect that he criticizes in this production. He comes off as ignorant of what's really going on.
He says, "Another moment that should bristle with softness, the Herbie-Rose duet "You'll Never Get Away From Me," climaxes with the two rolling about on the floor, their codependent romance sacrificed on the altar of cheap laughs."
- Seriously? Them falling and having an honest, human reaction together is one of the most charming moments. It CEMENTS the notion that these two do indeed share SOMETHING together. It's a lovely addition to that number, IMO.
About Ms. LuPone's "Everything's Coming up Roses", he says, "is terrifying not for its implications for the unwillingly front-and-center Louise, but because it all but ignores the real message of the song: There is nothing this woman will not do."
-I'm sorry, but what he felt was missing is what I SAW! Her "Everythings..." was riveting and terrifing because this woman is clearly hell-bent on bulldozing her daughter into forced fame and success no matter what. I was in awe at the end of Act 1.

I seriously doubt the show is as bad as he says (I saw the Ravinia version and thought Patti was fabulous and I am not even a big fan) but his review made me laugh. It is as if he was just out to write the ONE review that will make Patti's head explode.
Watching Arthur Laurents' riveting revival of the show he wrote and premiered in 1959, it's clear that "Gypsy" has the dramatic vertebrae of a superior species. This is not your everyday canned tuner; in this production it's an incisively acted musical play with as much emotional resonance as showbiz pizzazz.
