I've always wondered if there was footage of her performing ROSE'S TURN. Anyone know?
Nope.
Aside from the standard TV appearances of her performing some songs from GYPSY, she never performed "Rose's Turn" on any of them. Now, color home movie footage does exist of the number, but it is just a few short seconds AND it is silent. This footage can be seen in the BROADWAY: THE GOLDEN AGE documentary. Its basically Merman walking across the stage, so don't expect any dramatic gesturings, etc.
Unfortunately, musical performances weren't done at the Tony Awards back then, plus... the first TV broadcast of the Tony Awards wasn't until 1967. The original Broadway production of GYPSY was in 1959.
She can be seen performing "Rose's Turn" at the Theater in My Mind's Eye, nightly and twice on matinee days.
sandra church is STUNNING!!!! So beautiful!!!
Thanks for these pics. I enjoyed seeing them!

What a Bio!!!
There is a mistake in the bio.... it says her autobiograhy is called CALL ME MADAM. It was actually published under two titles. In the USA it was WHO COULD ASK FOR ANUTHING MORE? and in the U.K. and Canada it was published as DON'T CALL ME MADAM.
It is worth a hunt in used bookstores...it's quite a fun read with lots of backstage stories from here early years through 1955.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

If you feel like going through the bother, try finding LIFE magazine's coverage of the original Gypsy -- it was somewhere in May or June 1959. It has a great color pic of Merman and the cast that I've never seen anywhere else, before or since. I've kept it for years.

That was when star bios were really over the top. And I loved 'em.
I seem to remember Mary Martin's from SOUND OF MUSIC (That same season) was crazy long too.

"Is there any footage of Ethel in Gypsy, Anyone Know?"
No, the only chance we would have to see Ethel as Mamma Rose is if she did the movie. She doesn't even perform Rose's Turn in concerts which I think is a mistake and she should've but that is ok.
I would have loved to have seen her in it.
A rare treat for Ethel fans link is this thread on the off Topic Board
