She must play Madame Armfeldt in the revival of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and win another one for Featured Actress IN A MUSICAL next season to even out her third set of bookends and beat the record.
I just want to say this, while this topic has been started.
Angela Lansbury is a lady. A LADY. A prime example. Try finding ladies anymore in the under 30 crowd and you will come up with examples few and far between. It stems from terrible cultural ramifications, a culture where Paris Hiltons are more lauded than...Angela Lansburys.
One example: Lansbury, on Lee Remick's movie star airs which took place backstage during "Anyone Can Whistle," paraphrased -
"I think her husband sort of encouraged her to put on those airs, which was UNFORTUNATE."
Unfortunate. No need to be disparaging. No need to gossip. Just the truth. A lady.
I find that this greatly contrasts with this generation. A group of students in my college dorm were watching the film "Derailed" and one chick said of the lead actor: "God, I'd give him a blowjob in a second!"
There's another girl I know. This is her away message: YO IM HERRRRRRE. Even I am more of a lady than that.
Perhaps the classiest, loveliest thing Angela ever said...
On being around Hollywood sex symbol Warren Beatty (or was it Elvis?) during early 1960s film work:
"Maybe so, but it didn't matter to me because I was already married to the sexiest man in Hollywood."
Might I add, the luckiest?
There is indeed no classier woman on Broadway than Angela Lansbury. She is consummately strong, formidable and top-tier, and she has never had to compromise her femininity to be so. She is an example that should be more strongly followed.

Question, was her speech in the first ten minutes? I taped them and missed the first ten.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Oh, I might faint myself if Steve finally wrote a 2nd act song for Madame Armfeldt.
I mean, "Liasons" is great and all... but I'd take losing a verse of that for a short new song for Madame Armfeldt, or an adapttion of any of the fantastic cut material.
Hell, "Silly People" is in the London version transferring... give her an adapated version of that. It's a great, dissonant melody reminiscent of "Liasons" and fits the sardonic character well.
There are tons of great cuts songs from A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. "Bang!", "Two Fairy Tales", "My Husband The Pig" and the alternate "The Glamorous Life" are all fantastic, particularly the last one... Audra sings it masterfully on Youtube.

P.S. Rudy2 is enjoyably enthusiastically right... gotta agree with what he says as well. ROCK OF LOVE (not AGES) is pretty depictive of the girls in the circles I frequent, however bad that may reflect on me. Or indicative of a generational imparity. Updated On: 6/8/09 at 12:04 AM
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Madame Armfeldt in the revival of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC ... It has to be on the table at least! She would be perfect casting and she should grab her 6th Tony next year and establish herself as the best!
Such a gracious lady who deserves all the success she has, such a rareity
Angela Lansbury is a true lady, very down to earth and she is class personified. Her sincere reaction to winning the Tony and her gracious words to her co-nominees was the evening's highlight. What a wonderful human being she is.
Angela is truly one of my favorite actresses period.
Pity 'Deuce' sucked so badly (and well, Julie White did totally deserve it that year - nothing was going to beat her) or else she would have six. Either way, Angela is just plain brilliant and a bag of chips.
I just loved how she acknowledged the other nominees by saying "it wasn't fair". She knew that she was getting this award because of who she is, and that the other nom's didn't stand a chance, talent aside. I thought it was so gracious and humbling to actually tell the truth in the manner that she did.
"I'm an American, Damnit!!! And if it's three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math."
Angela Lansbury is one of the best actresses to ever hit Broadway. I have been listening to her cast recordings of MAME, DEAR WORLD and SWEENEY TODD for many years growing up...plus I caught many reruns of "Murder, She Wrote" on TV.
Even though the play itself wasn't the greatest, to have finally had the chance to see her live in DEUCE was thrilling. Then to see her in the first preview of BLITHE SPIRIT, where my friend and I knew immediately that she would win the Tony Award for this role was astounding. Then, to be present at the Tony Awards last night and participate in the rousing standing ovation given to her when she was awarded her fifth Tony Award...well, it brought tears to my eyes.
Angela Lansbury is a gem of the earth and she deserves every word of praise and every award given to her. I am truly honored to have met her and seen her perform live a few times. I will absolutely make it my business to be at BLITHE SPIRIT's closing matinee on July 19th.
P.S. She and Len Cariou at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago proved she could carry a show and could still if she wished...

If she is in A LIttle Night Music I will run to the theater for the first preview! That would be incredible!
Such a wonderful person. Gracious, classy, kind, talented, and brilliant. She knows how to go about any situation and still make herself seem like the most down to Earth person. I hope she continues her career and continues to please Broadway Audiences with her wonderful presence.
And it is sad that people like Paris Hilton and Brittany Spears and the Hannah Montana girl are more well known. I was standing next to a girl watching the red carpet and when Angela got out of her car she was screaming "WHO ARE YOU!?"
I agree with what everyone else has said. She is one of the last surviving members of 'classic Broadway' you could say, and the likes of such amazing performers as Jerry Orbach, Dorothy Loudon and, her good friend, Bea Arthur.
What a truly wonderful woman. Class personified. So glad she got that standing ovation.
Have you ever seen a more beautiful bride, either? 1949. You can tell these two were crazy about each other.
