I'm curious to see if there are a lot of lefties at BWW. I've read that lefties are very artistic and was wondering if there are a lot of us here.
I went to a small college in MA and it surprised me how many left-handed people went there.
(I checked both searches and I didn't find anything regarding this topic. I'm new to BWW, be gentle)
Yes. i'm a "southpaw".

Me!
Though I really didn't have much lefty pride in elementary school when I couldn't work the scissors...
Scissors and can openers -- two of enemies.
did they give you the really dull scissors with the green rubber on them?
No, but I had a first grade teacher that tried to convert me. My parents found out when I came home and wrote the first two letters of my name with my left hand and the last three letters with my right hand. When they asked me why I did that, I told them that Mrs. Whateverhernamewas slapped my hands when I wrote with my left hand. My mother immeeeeeediately went to the school and told her in no uncertain terms to lay off. And this was back in 1968.
Mrs. Whateverhernamewas died later in the year of a heart attack (she was older). My first-grade sense of justice was mollified.
Wow, I couldn't imagine my first grade teacher slapping my hand, but I don't have very good handwriting so maybe my first grade teacher should have learn how to teach lefties better.

Yep, I'm in my right mind, too. Anyone else hate one-sided ladels?

I thought this was going to be a thread about those at a certain end of the political spectrum ...... sorry, I'll leave now (with my right-handed self).

Yes! But they weren't dull, just rusty and really hard to open.
And don't get me started on can openers. What a nightmare. And the first few times I tried to swipe a Metrocard I wanted to break something. This world is made for righties, I'm afraid. We're just living in it.

Leftie here! I got my first sense of discrimination having to write on right-sided desks in grade school. It was hardly preparation for the gay thing 10 years later, however.

Ah, I remember my string teacher trying to contemplate whether she should try to teach my viola backwards. I mean, it was bad enough that she had to restring a violin to give me a "viola," but I was left-handed too? Bah.
Im Ambidextrous , does that count?
How funny, midtowngym, re: having to write on righty desks...ain't it de troof! In college, how many of us had to sit at the back of the room/lecture hall so we could use the writing component of the chair to our left?
YES, rlbgbc! That's me right now!
I hate how ink smears on my left hand when I write; the whole outside of my pinky and side of my hand gets covered in ink.
We are definitely living in a right-handed world. But I still love being a lefty, it makes me feel special.
Oy, THe ink smudge!! It's horrible!!! Ever try using erasable pens. They were the worse.
I love being a lefty. Anytime, I saw Phoebe write on Friends it made me smile! She's one of the many left handed people.
I've always known lots of Lefties (had to fight them for the one or two damn leftie desks available), and it's never seemed that the 'only 2%(or whatever %) are left-handed' statistic was accurate. Maybe because we are more artistic and I was born and raised in NYC, there's never been a shortage here.

It's around 11%, plus people who are sort of ambidextrous.
And of course, reason number 52 why Hebrew rocks is that it's a good language to write in if you're a lefty.
I'm left-handed, as well.
As for the crappy scissors--I learned to cut with my right hand so I wouldnt have to put up with those. I mean, could they have at least made a mild effort to make left-handed scissors with plastic or colors? I didnt ever want to use the ugly metal scissors that hurt my hands, so I just switched.
I am still suffering from the desks, though. I am fine using right-handed ones...fine, my back and neck will hurt a little, but I am over it. Where I have issues is in the lecture halls that have NO left-handed desks and the right-handed ones are literally 10-inches long. Its frustrating if you are a righty, let alone scrunching over!

I usually just tilt my notebook and I'm fine. My real problem is staying awake when my psych teacher decides (once again) that a point is best made 7 times over. Updated On: 11/8/04 at 03:34 PM
Yea, I tilt the notebook or dont even bother to pull up the desk part, but the problem is during exams when you cant have a notebook out.... so it becomes you vs. the scantron/blue book and desk.
has anyone ever tried the left handed pen with a different grip?
Count me in the "Lefties have Rights" club! A friend gave me an interesting book about lefties. Pretty neat stuff!
I think I might have been a leftie when I was born, because I tend to favor my left side more than my right. However I was taught to write with my right hand (however it is very sloppy) and can't write a lick with my left hand.
