Both current and past.
I'm looking for some new music.

Also Regina Spektor, Maria McKee, Carol King, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Randy Newman, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Kate Bush, and if you like Patti Griffin, check out Tift Merritt.

The Carpenters (Richard wrote most of the lyrics and music)
if you like Patty Griffin i recommend Kasey Chambers and Lori Mckenna. another great artist is Ellis Paul, although his last CD kind of sucks as it's all lullabies. but his other CDs are great.

Jeff Buckley, Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson (just saw him live and he was amazing), Damien Rice, Ben Folds
I also had the pleasure of seeing an up and coming singer songwriter from NY open at a show I was at recently. Her name is Ingrid Michaelson and her performance was sheer perfection. I highly recommend checking out her music.
Once again, check out Tift Merritt. She's incredibly underrated...listen to "Good Hearted Man"
