Harriet Miers, Bush's personal lawyer with no experience as a judge is now the candidate for Sandra Day O'Connor's supreme court position.
The Dems are saying many of the same things they said about Roberts, and because of her lack of any record she is almost certain to breeze through.

Good lord. How long before Bush's personal gardener becomes the next Secretary of Agriculture?

When Thomas was nominated Thurgood Marshall asked his wife, "Do we know him?"

It does not seem that she will hold up well during the hearings.
Hey, Rathnait! She's a single gal!
Hopefully this will be one that the dems can stop. I mean come on, Roberts just sailed through. Hopefully the dems will be able to contain this one.............but then again they won't. Democrats have no spines it seems.
So here is my question. What is the possibility of the next Democratic President.....oh my bad I mean President who is a Democrat, oopps, overturning and pressing a kind of reset button on the last 6 years and getting rid of everyone Bush appointed?

Impossible - Federal Judges and Justices are appointed for life. That is why there is so much at stake with this nominee.

She's also a former board member of Exodus.

Try not to let your Homophobia Bone get all tingly and excited, Goth. The Exodus she was involved with is one for ex-offenders (that does some pretty crappy and biased evaluation of its own success) and NOT the ex-gay ministry.
Must I ALWAYS do your research for you?
But if Bush was lets say Impeached or removed or (wonder of wonders) put in prison, wouldn't there be something that could be done.....oh nevermind, I'm talking out of my @$$
No Magnum, it could turn out that Bush is literally a dead body being manipulated by Rove and Cheney, al la Weekend at Bernie's and his nominees will still all stick, for life.
Time to get Mr. Peabody and the way back machine ready for another trip I suppose.
Gotham, you are uninformed, as usual. The Exodus group she worked with helped convict start new lives after prison. It was NOT an ex-gay ministry.
hmmm.. well, i suppose it's a red letter day for rachel dratch.
She's an eybrow-pencil adventuress.
Too bad she's yet another Bush crony.
I have never heard of her . . .
But reading what is available of her record, all I can say is that it could be much worse. Bush was not going to nominate a fire-breathing liberal or even moderate. Conservative Groups are not happy with her. She has given money to Democrats in the past (1988 donated to Gore). David Frum has come out against her, as has Rush Limbaugh, and William Kristol. If these folks are not happy, well, then it cannot be all bad.
At least she is no Thomas or Scalia.
I wonder if she is confirmed, whether she will recuse herself if Bush is ever in front of the court.
What makes her bad is that she is a BUSHEVIK CRONY, and the post is for life.
What the conservatives don't like about her is that her nomination proves, once again, that Bush is more into his own power and self-preservation than he is passionate about conservative ideals. They're calling it another "Brownie moment": points at which conservatives have to admit that Bush is as bad as we've always known he is. Seems like the only Bush supporters left are the Three Stooges here on BWW.
That doesn't make Harriet good for us. The Cronyism Factor makes her bad for everyone.

Right Thinking from the Left Coast
i imagine her most pronounced personal quality, like condoleeza, is that she is obedient.
Condi obedient? I always though Mistress Condoleeza was the dominatrix in the West Wing dungeon that Karl and Jeffy had installed.
I understand that the whole Cronyism issue and Bush go hand in hand.
But. . .
I would personally prefer a Bush loyalist who was not a far right strict constructionist to the alternative.
I agree that she may not be good for us, but she may also not be as bad as the alternative.
Maybe just trying to find the silver lining somewhere.
The confirmation hearings should be interesting.

But for Ohio - we would have someone like George Mitchell.
Justice Jerri Blank...???
The good thing about a Bush crony is that once Bush is gone, her values are up for grabs, she could turn out to decide cases any way. Not being tied down by the ideology. Of course she may just as likely be to the right of Scalia.
