I've always wondered if she would come back to play Elphaba in Wicked at some point like Marissa did in Hairspray.
I'm sure she has alot of other offers. The girls in popular demand now. I doubt she would have to resort to going back to playing Elphaba again.
The only way I can see her doing it is if she opens the show in London. Other than that, I think her Wicked days (at least in the US) are over.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised once Wicked starts lagging in the box office...
Wicked will be fine for several years. It's Boxo is not currently dependent on the names in the show.
I said "once,"--meaning not now but in the future...i don't know about several years, maybe 18 months, but it will eventually decline...everything does unless they do stunt casting a la Chicago, which is what a Menzel return would be.

Sure, I'd love to see it, but I don't see it happening.
It's really doubtful. Idina's had her run with the show, and it's time for someone else to shine for a while as The Green Girl. She'll move on to other projects, however, and we'll continue to see her in other, eventually equally-beloved roles, I'm sure. :)
If she didn't have a budding career, I would say that she would come back in a second. But I agree, unless she opens the show in London, no more Wicked for Idina. (or if they use her for a movie, but she'll be 40-something by then, so I doubt it)
It still seems odd to me that they would make a film of the musical Wicked. It would be a fabulous mini-series, and they could actually follow the novel closely.
I think she put Wicked behind her.. FAR behind her
Oooh, mini-series! Me like! Maybe they could do a musical mini-series. I've always wanted to see a musical TV show.
Probably not... except maybe if one of the following were to happen:
1) Kristin agreed to do the show too and they got paid mega bucks for a short return (i.e. Nathan and Matthew in the Producers)
2) The show is closing and she gets paid megabucks to close it.

Wicked was actually originally supposed to be a miniseries before the idea of a musical came up. They couldn't get it to work so they went the musical route.
1) Kristin's got a great career of her own, and no Broadway show will pay her more than she's making in Hollywood, most likely.
2) Idina will be 80 by the time Wicked closes.

There are any number of shows that have survived years without stunt casting. Look at Phantom- they've never had to stunt cast, and the show is about to become the longest running musical ever. In many ways, Wicked is similar to Phantom- the title sells the show. I think Wicked will be selling out the Gershwin for a long time, certainly much longer than 18 months.
Which is such a shame. I'm just going to post my distaste for long runs here, b/c Wicked is obviously going to have one. I wish they would make their money back, make a good profit, and then leave and give another show a chance. I know it will never happen, but that would be my dream.
Hey if they can fill the Gershwin (a hard theatre to fill) at 100 percent every week, more power to them.
Just watch, when all the tweens of 2005 are 43 in 2034, they'll bring their own tweens to the show and Wicked will sore for another 40 years.

"Tweens" aren't the only people who like Wicked...
i really really doubt that idina will return to wicked.. i think shes afraid of her 12 year old Wicked fans, and shes probably putting it farrr behind her.
I love how everyone makes snarky comments about 12 year olds loving Wicked. Um, weren't you young once? What was YOUR favorite show when you were 12 so I can mock it?
I'm WELL over 12, but it pisses me off that 12 year olds aren't allowed to love a show. Thank goodness (no pun intended) that people are going to the theater!
