She also had a show where she pierced her ears.
I don't know about Oprah. She occasionally will do shows that are about powerful subjects, but she intersperses them with airheaded fluff. She has Coretta Scott King on her show and...gives her a makeover. Mrs. King has so many causes she supports and could have discussed with Oprah, but they give her a new hairstyle instead. It's just weird.

Oprah... just annoys me. There's just something about her.
I watched part of the episode today, but couldn't concentrate... I was trying to eat and watching it made me feel sick. It's an important topic to learn about, but as somebody (sorry, I don't know who it was) pointed out before they still go on. I'll spare you all my Rwanda rant, but if the world said "never again" they should put that into action.
You're kidding. She had Coretta Scott King on to give her a makeover?
And I was just going to mention the ear-piercing show. The way she and the audience were carrying on...I just wanted to smack everyone upside the head.
The show hasn't aired here yet, so I expect I'll be back with my opinion after it's over.

You poor dear!
I'm glad I have to leave for work!

It's an incredibly sickening topic. That the rest of the world could let it happen, sickens me.

I watched this, and thought it was a very interesting show. Really riveting. I was stunned by the pictures and videos they showed. I didn't think they could do that. But I really think America needed to see it.
I'm watching it right now. Elie Wiesel is riveting, and Oprah seems to alternate between boredom and laying it on thick for the cameras. I would much rather watch Wiesel present this alone.
And I'm very surprised that they're able to air such brutal footage. Not that it shouldn't be shown; I'm just surprised that they're able to run it on network TV.

Elie Weisel is a personal hero of mine. I am going to try to catch the 7:00 pm airing.
The rooms with the victims' clothes and shoes and luggage is staggering. There are so many...my God, there are so many things. There were so many people.
The little boy's suitcase was heartbreaking. He couldn't have been more than three years old. There aren't words to describe the tragedy of it all.
And yeah, Oprah really needs to learn a new adjective. If she says "unimaginable" one more time...
watching it tonight, taping it now.....we're lucky that we get it at 3PM from LA and then 4 PM from here, and then 11PM.....
wait, maybe that's NOT so fortunate

I refuse to watch this damn woman. She is horrid.
I didn't find this Oprah show dealing with Auschwitz anything new or detailed or specific. PBS's documentary series are much better.

This isnt about Oprah.............it is about the Holocaust! It is about over 6 million people being slaughtered. It is about a gifted man like Elie Wiesel teaching to never let this happen again. But does the world listen? Think about Darfur.

I understand the remarks about Oprah but I mean, how can you respond to someone who's lived through all of that? I was thinking about what I would've said and there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that would be the right or normal thing to say. Like Oprah, I probably would've said some wierd things just out of confusion and shock.
Oprah show is seen all over the World. I am glad she featured Elie Weisel. He is an amazing man. Bless him and his work!!!Young people should never forget!!!
I have personally never liked Oprah, for all the reasons you have mentioned.
And while I still am not her biggest fan, I do appreciate that she does do good things. It may even be for the wrong reasons, who knows. But what she does really effects those who are on the receiving end. And, as far as I'm concerned, it is better that she's there doing those good things (no matter what her motives are) and being as annoying as she wants to be.
I would encourage you to watch tomorrow. The 50 winners of her essay contest are going to be on, and I know one of them. And she is the most deserving girl ever. I'm so proud of her/happy for her.

I thought Elie's novel was amazing. What an intese story...
She gives out too many gifts. It's kind of like, "Oh you know I'm just SUCH a good person--- have a car!"
But I love Elie Weisel.
I agree, Sally. I'm not saying that it's genuine, or a real sign of her being a good person, etc.
But I have seen what she has done for people (personally, not by watching the show), and- while I'm still not a fan of her- I could care less about her motivation. I think what she's doing is good, even if she's doing it excessively or for the wrong reason. She has touched the lives of some deserving people, and they are truly grateful.
That being said, I've NEVER liked her. But I'm glad she does things for people.
"I don't see why he needs subtitles. He's lived in America for years and his English is very clear. (sorry, it's a random pet peeeve)"
skittles........for anyone like me with hearing difficulties, as he spoke so softly, a lot of it I could not make out. never assume it's only due to an accent.
"That being said, I've NEVER liked her. But I'm glad she does things for people."
I agree. How has she hurt anyone? She uses her wealth and influence to help others. I don't care why she's doing it. Not enough others are.
what they did not show was the room with all the eyeglasses......it is as riveting as the room with the shoes.

PBS has wonderful series, Sanda. But Oprah's viewership rivals the audiences that tune in for those. And I think the one-on-one talk really personalized things, and had the potential to touch and educate millions of people (this is not to take away from the great historical documentaries that exist). I thought it was a very powerful hour. I know what you guys mean about Oprah being self-important at times, but I personally didn't get that vibe today at all. I was very moved. I think she was humbled and overwhelmed (how can you not be?) with emotion.

A least she didn't pull the teary-eyed "I'm so ANGRYYYYY!!!" that she did at the Superdome after Katrina - that's the one and only time that she's ever seemed contrived (to me).
