Up until his death it seemed like the opposite, and it kind of upset me that we didn't find out until after that Snape was good.

I love that story, in general.

An enclyclopedia? More backstories/appendices would be nice. I hope Rowling doesn't dedicate the rest of her career to squeezing more out of Harry Potter - in terms of sequels, etc., HP should rest as is.

HUZZAH for the encyclopedia!!!! I have so many unanswered questions as a result of Deathly Hallows, and it will be great to read the little back stories on all of my favorite characters instead of just speculation.

As someone who loves her copies of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages, this will be a great addition to my collection.

I liked the epilogue because it showed what happened later on, but at the same time it felt kind of unreal. I was slightly upset that Rowling didn't state what everyone's adult jobs were. I'd have liked to know, especially since Harry and Ron expressed interest in being Aurors.

I am REALLY excited about the encyclopedia! I still need to get the other two books. The only other thing I would like to see is Hogwarts, A History

I don't really know what it was about the Epilogue that irked me. Maybe it's just because I was so used to growing up alongside Harry it was jolting to be pushed 19 years into the future. Come to think of it I don't like most epilogues. I was hoping to find out more about the secondary characters in the epilogue. I could have guessed that Harry grew up to marry Ginny and have children and would be accepting of them no matter what.

And Hogwarts, A History would be amazing. It seems like that book would unlock a lot of secrets.

Having them 19 years older was a bit odd. Especially since we've known every detail of their growing up, only to suddenly have 19 years missing.

I am a bit out to lunch on the book. i didn't feel the deathly Hallows storyline was really needed. It just threw one more thing into the fray. There were already so many questions to be answered. The segment of the book where Ron had left Harry and Hermoine was slow and I had to set the book down a few times. That bothered me since the book started off so good. When Moody and Hedwig died I thought "Ok, Rowlings is going to go there". I was not happy with the twist at the end where we find out that Harry lives. I kept getting the feeling during the conversation between Harry and Dumbledore that she was still not sure if she wanted to kill him off. I thought that he would die and Neville would "Take his place". And I thoufght that was going to happen as Harry was walking to the woods. The Epilogue could have been better. What I would like to have had happen if she was going to go ahead in time and introduce their children is to see Harry's son take a liking to the Dark Arts and be sorted into Slytherine and have it end there. I just thought the book was uneven. There was a lot I liked and some I didn't. JMO

I am thinking it is because it was their eldest kids 1st year at Hogwarts. Wasn't it?

You're right about the Deathly Hallows uncageg. They weren't mentioned until more than halfway through the book, and when we finally found out about them they weren't exactly the main point. Whereas in all the other books whatever the "and........" was what Harry spent all his time on.

Actually, it was Harry's second eldest kid's (Albus') first year at Hogwarts. His older son, James, had already gone. I think it was for Albus' first year because Albus was worried about his being srted into Slytherin, and since his middle name was Severus, and Snape had been in Slytherin and was still brave, it could've been to show that Harry had finally excepted Slytherins, as well as accepted Snape to be a brave and good man.

My two cents...

When did you all cry?

When Ron came back, throughout the chapter with Snape's memories (especially when he finds out about Lily's death), and I literally sobbed through the "The Forest Again" chapter, from the moment that Harry wonders why he never appreciated what a miracle it was just to be alive. I don't think I cried when Dobby died, but I was definitely sad.

But the Deathly Hallows storyline has been there since the very first book. We couldn't know about it until the end because it would have told us too much about Dumbledore. I thought that was fine, very well handled considering how late it was introduced. After all, Dumbledore did the legwork for the Hallows. It was just up to Harry to use them the right way.

It would have been lame if Sirius came back to life. Too unbelievable.

My friend and I were completely right that Snape was neither good nor evil. He loved Lily and that was his whole motivation. He really is an interesting character... all of them are, really. She has a real gift for creating complex characters.

Wow, I need to read the 1st book again. I don't remember the Hallows in the 1st book. I need to go back and re-read the 1st 4 books. I only re-read 5 and 6 for the movie and last book.

I didn't cry at any point during the book. Got a little emotional when Harry was walking to the Forest and talked to his parents. That was because I was thinking he was going to die. And I was thinking that the final chapter "The flaw in the Plan" was referring to a mistake Harry made.

I think it was a reference to Voldemort taking Harry's blood.

The only hallow that gets mentioned is the cloak but he mentions that James gave it to him, and it seems to have weird miraculous powers and people are always commenting on it throughout the story. Also, Grindewald is mentioned in that first book and I'd been wondering who he was ever since.

It shows how good Harry's character is that he doesn't take the Deathly Hallows to use for himself.

Right - he has no desire for power at all, hence he doesn't make the same mistake as Dumbledore.

I remember when he got the cloak, but I don't remember it being said that it was part of the Hallows in the 1st book.

It didn't say that. I think it was a conclusion Dumbledore, and later Harry, came to themselves.

Right. I was actually responding to the post that said the storyline was there from the beginning. Rowlings may have known what she was going to do with the hollows but I don't remember it being mentioned in the 1st book. Seems like she was setting it up for the final book. I am assuming Dumbledore knew all of the time that the cloak was part of the hallows.
