Yeah I know there's already a thread but I don't want to go looking for it even if it's gonna take me 2 seconds.
Okay so am I the only one with a total hankering that Dumbeldore will return because of Horcruxes? Even if they are to an evil nature (horcruxes)

Dumbeldore won't return because Harry quit school to go looking for Voldemort. He's not needed as a character anymore.
Yeah but Harry's kind of a dumb ass..he sort of needs Dumbledore's guidance...

Ms. Rowling has said before that once a character is dead, they are dead.
the only way dumbeldore will return is by seeing him and hearing him through the portrait it the head master/mistress' office
ahh thank you
Well then Harry is screwed. YES

Sally - I think the whole point of this series is that you CAN be responsible for your own existence - hence the reason that Harry has systematically had his supports removed. I think ultimately he will prevail.
...Grr you're right though. it would be SUCH a good ending though if he died! While killing Voldemort..
ooh who knew Rowling was such an existentialist...

i cried for an hour after reading it. haha...only three books in the whole world have provoked such a reaction. Tess of the D'urbervilles, The Hours, and The Red Tent. and now...hahaha Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. :)
The Hours and The Red Tent equals love! I haven't read Tess of the D/urbervilles, is it good?
ANYHOO not to thread jack or anything
oh that would so SUCK if Dumbledore came back... talk about wishy-washy
Dumbledore's death was a complete literary necessity. Harry couldn't become a proper hero without losing his mentor. He has to stand on his own two feet.
He is DEAD. He is NOT COMING BACK.
BLAH! BUT HARRY CAN'T SUCCEED ON HIS OWN!
I am so not against him..really...
harry is a horcrux. that is my theory. that is all.
ps- im back from vacation. yah.

THe Harry=Horocrux thing does make sense as it would explain all the ties between him and Voldemort, but I don't think that necessarily means Harry has to die (because thousands if not millions of little kids would KILL JkR if she tried that).
And even in Harry talks to Dumbli in a portrait, Dumbli's not going to tell him much...if anything.

Dumbledore is dead and he's not coming back. But, in addition to the portrait, we also still have the Pensieve as a plot device, which could allow Harry (and us) to see more of Dumbledore's memories, as well as other characters' memories involving him.
As for Harry dying - every time I think, naaahhh, she'd never kill him off, I am reminded that she is from the land that gave us Hamlet, Blake's 7, and BlackAdder.
On the flip side, when I think that she will kill him, I'm reminded of the bit in Princess Bride where Westley dies and the shocked kid asks his grandpa, "What'd you read me this stupid book for!?"
From the day the book was released until yesterday, I was convinced that Harry was a horcrux and that he would have to die at the end of book seven in order to kill Voldemort, but a few things a friend brought up have put this in doubt:
- Doesn't book 6 say somewhere that all the horcruxes need to be destroyed before Voldemort can? As well, I believe it says one must kill the other - if we understand that literally, then it must be by Harry's hand that Voldemort dies, but that wouldn't work if he - a horcrux - is already dead.
- I think book 6 (I've only read it once when it first came out so my memory's fading) says that Voldemort has to conscientiously make the horcruxes. If we assume Harry became a horcrux the night his parents were killed and that Voldemort's powers were accidentally transferred into him when Vold actually intended to kill him, then he couldn't have become a horcrux...at least at that point.
JK Rowling has said explicitly on the FAQ section of her official site that once a character is dead, he/she is dead. (Much to my chagrin - I was a huge Sirius fan.) I'm trying to predict who'll die in the seventh book. I'm guessing Snape (who'll turn out to be a misunderstood martyr)...maybe Neville...
Sorry if my speculation's already been covered on the big HBP thread - since I'm re-reading #5 right now, I want to re-fresh myself on #5 and #6 and then go back and read everyone's posts.
I do think that Dumbledore's death was planned, and most likely he had plenty of things in place to help Harry along the way...
Harry will be okay (damn!)...
I agree - I think Snape has to align himself with the Deatheaters in order to get inside information...what I'm trying to figure out is if it was planned for him to be a spy and it was also planned that he may have to kill Dumbledore (likely the only person who knew), then who's going to believe Snape now if he DOES try to provide helpful information to the Order?
There was this sort of far-fetched theory that Dumbledore took polyjuice potion to become "Snape" at the beginning of the book, and that HE's the one who swore the unbreakable vow to the Malfoys. It would explain why he kept making up excuses for Draco when Harry was crying foul. It would also explain why Snape had to kill him, since Dumbledore couldn't protect Draco at that point, and was going to die shortly anyway.
That is...far-fetched...and yet strangely plausible...
Yeah. I hope that's not the case though - it seems like a cop-out to say, "Ta da! It was just Dumbledore in Snape's body!" It would be more satisfying if there's a real resolution to the pickle Snape got himself in regarding the Malfoys instead of assuming it's moot now that Dumbledore is dead.
