My sister will be singing at her HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION and she is a CLASSICAL voice soprano, though she has a great range.
I will take any suggestions and put them into consideration, but please keep in mind there is also a VIOLIN PLAYER that will be playing with her too.
I know this question comes up a lot, & I searched but couldn't find any songs that fit my requirements.
Please feel free to ask any QUESTIONS {they are two of the BEST musicians in our state}
Thanks a ton for all your help,
~kangaroo

I've heard someone sing a solo version of "The Prayer" from "Quest for Camelot." It's a lovely song.
my school sang seasons of love at my graduation.
my high school did that HORRIBLE "here's to the night" song....it was awful--the song, the singer, etc. does the song have to be about movin' on and all that?
Visions of a Sunset is pretty (from mr Holland's Opus) don't know how it would sound if a girl sang it....check out the lyrics online!!!
If I think of anything else...I'll let you know!
at my high school graduation we had this beautiful mezzo soprano sing "you'll never walk alone." it's kind of cheesy, but for people who don't know it, it's nice.

for a soprano with a violin there is a version of the most perfect song ever for graduation...
TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
The song is really pretty {Time to Say goodbye} but it's in another language?... I think people would have a hard time to understand it because one line is in english

only part of it is in another language... and the other part's in english (there's also an all english version if it means that much to you)... and it's for voice and violin, perfect for the occasion... and you could always ask to put the translation in the program?
Our grad song was The Beatles' "In My Life." Bittersweet, but still happy.

our's was that john mayer song... "i wanna run through the halls of my high school, i wanna scream at the top of my lungs"
That was one of our finalists, apdarcey.

I don't have any good suggestions but I thought I'd say that our class song is by Greenday...I already forgot what it was. Abba your school rocks if that was your graduation song, I wish I went there!

the green day song is a great grad song... but very over done.
Not graduation, but I always thought "Thank You for the Music" slowed down to a ballad would make a good senior choir song.
It's NOT a song to be sung during Graduation ceremonies, but a song that my friends and I used to sing to ourselves when we graduated was Billy Joel's "I've Loved These Days".
Good for a party...
We'll Never Say Goodbye (Art Garfunkel)
We share the days of laughter
We share the nights of sorrow
And in the morning after
We face the bright tomorrow
Side by side we'll always stand
Spirits flying high
Long as I can hold your hand
We'll never say goodbye.
We walk the halls of learning
And serve a proud tradition
The flame of truth is burning
To clarify our vision
Look at how the future gleams
Gold against the sky!
Long as I can share your dreams
We'll never say goodbye
There's little to be sure of
But we will last forever
For now we know the pure love
We feel when we're together
Then if someay we should part
We will not say die
Long as you are in my heart
We'll never say goodbye

that Green Day song is Good Riddence. I love that song still. It's great to do with a violin too. People at my camp do that the last week and it sounds amazing.
sorry apdarcy... I didn't mean to insult you... but trust me, if you went to our school, you wouldn't be singing a song in another language. It's still a beautiful song though, do you knwo where I could get it in English?
And Green Day is their "senior song"... and it's being used for some other part of the ceremony.
Thanks though!! ~kangaroo

My district's superintendent quoted "Seasons of Love" for my graduation.
And a friend of mine said her graduation song was...Springsteen's "Glory Days?" Call me a music geek (or the fact that I look into the lyrics waaay too much) but that's the LAST song I would pick for graduation. (And I hate the overusage of "Good Riddance" as well)
For our senior awards night, which was the night before graduation, two people sang the duet version of "The Prayer." It was lovely.
I love "the Prayer" [Josh Groban devotee... aka Grobanite here] but I am almost positive that she is singing alone.
What do you guys think of "You Raise me up" ... It was the song my sister was thinking about... Is that a good graduation song? Is it a grad song at all?
Thanks for all of your help ~kangaroo
