well, in the past two years and coming year then.
although, you could argue that is is very slightly based on Seseme Street.
You could argue that Drowsy is "very slightly" (oxymoron btw) based on 20s musicals. There's enough original stuff in Q to qualify it as original at least as Drowsy.
Actually, I got a better one that beats both. I'd say Q is slightly better, but I'd put it above Drowsy: spelling Bee. There's not much you can think of to say Spelling Bee is slightly based on.
But you know, I'm certainly not one of those people who only love original musicals. They're so rare anyway. R&H were all based on plays/books, Rent on an opera, Wicked on a book, etc. Of course my absolute favorite is based on a fairly famous story...doesn't take away from the show itself. But just since you were classifying Drowsy anyway is why I replied with Q.
And if you're then gonna say Drowsy was the best original music to open last season...well it's sole competition would be In My Life. Do you really think it says anything about a show to say it's better than In My Life? :-P

thanks Dre, listen to you tomorrow
The Lake House is a long and tedious movie, with a ridiculous lack of Scott Cohen in it.
You make an interesting and incisive point Blucat.

His last show is Dallas October 22nd.
Hi guys. I just got my laptop back from the shop. I've been going a little crazy without Internet access!
Dre - I only stopped at DC's stagedoor after The Fantasticks. I'm so sorry I missed you.
I've been catching up on all the posts from the last few days. The reason there is so much variety on Broadway (and Off) is because of the various tastes of the audiences. I would easily argue that (since DRS's closing) Drowsy Chaperone is the best show on Broadway. Avenue Q was a one-time only hit for me. Once I'd heard all the witty dialogue and lyrics, I had no desire to hear it again. I thought it was incredibly original - just not the kind I would get anything out of by seeing it a second time. I thought Spelling B was cute, but I was not impressed enough to see it again. In fact, I was sorry that I had not spent the money and time on something else. Again - this is simply a matter of taste. I've seen Drowsy twice and I know I'll see it again before the cast changes. I just enjoyed it THAT much!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREG! (I've managed to miss him twice while my laptop was out for repairs. Now I have it back, he probably won't come back on during my days off from work.)
For any who're interested, this is DRS's Easter Bonnet from the flea market:
awww, Mamie, thanks for the pic. that's the one my friend got. It was weird getting on the train with that. but it was cool.
Aww!
Of course Mamie; variety is imperative to Broadway. I think the importance lies in separating "best" from "favorite." And of course there's too much variety even in that, but I mean...Wicked is my favorite musical currently playin gon Broadway.
It's not the best, and I know it.
I so wanted DRS to win the 2005 Tony for best musical.
Piazza deserved it more.

Thanks for posting the link, Barb! I left a greeting.
(By the way, it's a really nice site overall - very well put-together. Maybe I'm a shameless flatterer, but I really think it is!)
