Mr. Marc, I do not understand one line of IT TAKES TWO from HAIRSPRAY, and it bothers me.
Lancelot had Guenevere,
Mrs. Claus has old Saint Nick,
Romeo had Juliet
and Liz, well, she has her dick.
the LIZ line confuses me!!
Marcmylove, who is said dickful Liz? and why exactly is she dickful?
Aghhhhh....

Why, I do believe that it refers to Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard "Dick" Burton!

Sometimes, it sounds like he is saying "and Liz, well, she had a dick."
hahha i never got that line too. In my own demented mind i though it was talking about something else.
ya, definite double entendre (sp?)
I thought it ment Liz was a man...
maybe it's best left undefined so each person can have their own interpretation. it is what you make it.
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
OK, I feel really ancient now.
Liz & Dick!!! Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton!!
Good God, I'm old!!!
But gee, when I was a kid, I heard of Fred & Ginger even though they were before my time!
anyway students, Liz & Dick were the original "Benifer", meaning only that they were THE show biz couple who couldn't make a MOVE without it being in every paper. And they were both married (to other people) when they met.
I am gonna go change my Depends now...

ha ha ha ha ha. Poor Marc. I am a wee-thing in my early 20s and I Knew who they were. It is more a problem of people not earning their "gay card"... not age.
Hey, I have my Gay Card.

But did you earn it through hard work and passing yoru gay history and fashion exams or did you simply sleep with the right people and skip the actual card-earning process???
Hmmm... I'm gonna go with the second one...
Marc, there's no reason to feel ancient! I was 15 when I first saw Hairspray and I knew that it was reference to Taylor and Burton.
I personally like when lyrics have references like that, because it makes me feel smart when I understand them! I got to harass my sister AND mom who didn't get the reference, but then they didn't get a lot of things.
Bottom line: Don't feel ancient Marc, just pity those who don't get it.
Marc, you're not ancient
they are uncultured

Marc,
You CAN'T be old...because that means I'm old, too! And I will not have that. Not at all! I'm as sharp as I've ever been...
Now...what were we discussing...?
