Dink is as old as yuppie. I heard it in the 80s. I never heard twink. What this has to do with the thread, I'm not sure.
Wikipedia backs Phyllis up.
And apparently, twinks get their namesake from Twinkies.
So there you go.
^That's why I don't like being called a twink. Makes me feel like I'm all fluff on the outside with nothing to offer on the inside except creamy white stuff.
That being said, I'm not gonna get all pissed off if someone calls me one like the one direction kids.
But unlike Twinkies, twinks aren't good after ten years.

for those of Vietnam war age DINK is an ethnic pejorative
Twink, Dink...whatever. These and other labels are bandied about by deeply troubled, insecure people.

And yet I know many, many people who would call the use of these words a form of empowerment.
Growl, that's kinda sad. Need an imposed label for self esteem.
They're a way gay men can stay clique-y and therefore stay in high school forever.
Kinda like BWW!
It's funny that it took so long for this to be mentioned, but to many people (in fact most people I know who fit the category), being called a "twink" is a compliment.
It conveys youth which is desirable, especially among gay men who so often define themselves by such external (and fleeting) attributes.
If it makes you feel better, Phyllis, you look much older than 38.
Y'all make me feel f**king old!
Doodle, you're only as old as you look....uh, I mean feel. Yes, feel!!
God, I hope I look younger than I feel!
Sciatica and GERD are constant companions!
With me, too, doodle, me, too.
If I had a kid, I'd owe it to St. Ives.
Moisturize, babies! It seems rough out there! Grindr seems like a nightmare!

I'm so glad that this conversation is happening. As a younger gay guy (younger as in still in college) I've always struggled with trying to figure out where i fit in in the gay community. Sometimes it feels like my personal life is governed by these idiotic rules, stereotypes, and categories that I fall into. I go to one of the most LGBTQ friendly colleges in America, which is wonderful coming from a small conservative town where I was the only (out) gay kid, but it's such a constant struggle to be what the gay community here wants and expects me to be. I'm starting to reach a point where I just don't give a f**k. If I want to wear my heels one day, and my flannel shirt the next day, then goddamn I'm gonna do it!
Ok...rant over!
Caleb, these labels will only define you if you let them. Just be true to yourself. It's really as simple as that.
The tough part is that so many young and old(er) gay men do let themselves be defined by others.
