She went to a party as "Crazy Eyes" from Orange is the New Black. Racial ignorance prevails in 2013. Incredible.

I don't know. Part of me just finds it hard to work up anything more than a "whatever" over this. Maybe people here will use that as an excuse to say in a full on racist and use it against me forever. But whatever.

Jordan. I'm personally not outraged or offended about the actual "blackface." I'm more offended by the general ignorance and stupidity.
I am not African-American so I would not dare speak on behalf of them, but isn't the intention behind blackface just as offensive to the African-American culture as the N word spoken by a caucasian in 2013?

I'm offended she looks nothing like Crazy Eyes.

I wouldn't consider that blackface. Blackface is charcoal black with giant white or red clown lips.
Some people are not happy unless they are outraged about something. Even if they really aren't.

If you're going to try to make the ridiculous and stupid "historical" argument, you should at least get your facts straight. Traditional blackface is burnt cork, not charcoal. Oh yeah, and blackface isn't limited to the minstrel stereotype.

She was imitating someone who happens to be African American a/k/a "black". That's where the terminology comes in, not the shade. Halle Berry is a light skinned African American woman. Her complexion is "brown" but you don't see anyone calling her a "brown" actress.
No matter how you try to spin it what Julianne Hough is wearing is "blackface", no matter what shade it is. PERIOD.
I agree with Jordan, I would need to be convinced (and am more than willing to be) to find this disturbing. Perhaps it's because Hough doesn't even look like she's impersonating a black woman, let alone offering a generic cross-racial comment, even with the bronzing.
Still, whether I'm disturbed or not really isn't the issue. The question is whether this is insulting to black people. I will respect the verdict from those who are personally impacted and welcome being instructed as to why, from both historical and current perspectives.
As a man of color I find it disturbing she decided to "go there". Unfortunate choice on her part. It's blatantly ignorant.
It sounds like its a personal issue that you need to work on.

Wow. Give Jungle Red an award for sounding like the Russian troll. I pray and hope that you are of color, Jungle Red. To say that to someone else of color. I really do.

No it isn't a fvcking personal issue I need to work on.
It's okay Liza's Headband. It's ignorant fools like Jungle Red who think it's cool to wear blackface or dress up like Nazis for Halloween. SUCKS TO BE HIM.

Here's the thing: she could've done the hair and clothes, and still played her favorite character from the show. But adding blackface is offensive, and ridiculous. And frankly, she should know better.
Definitely not a smart move on her behalf. I did cringe when I saw this earlier. People should be offended or at least know that it isn't okay.

None of her friends changed their skin tone to better match the shockingly translucent cast of Orange is the New Black. Why did she choose to do blackface? It's like The Simpsons episode with the cone of ignorance. That's Julianne in the center. All her idiot friends that didn't tell her to wash her face before the party are falling into the hole with her.
I'm not of color, and I'm nothing like Sue.
If I saw a straight guy dressing and acting like a stereotypical gay guy for Halloween, I wouldn't be offended because I don't let my emotions control me.
I find it offensive when straight couples/bachlorettes come into my gay bars parading their heterosexuality but I don't do anything about it. I don't get riled up.
Pick your battles. Celebrities make stupid decisions all the time.
Since I'm not of Hispanic decent, should I not celebrate Dia de los Muertos by getting my face painted?
One last question. Does this picture of Al Jolson offend you?
Well that was a stupid idea. A few years ago I had to talk a friend out of painting herself black for Halloween to be Nicki Minaj.
I don't think anyone's going to disagree that it was a really stupid thing for her to do. But again, I still can't muster up any anger over it, probably because I know even though it was dumb, there (most probably) was no ill will behind it.
One last question. Does this picture of Al Jolson offend you?
Yes and you are not going to dictate how I should feel.
I'm not the guy who is offended by every little slight. Have you noticed that?
Jungle Red, how do straight couples parade their heterosexuality in your gay bars, and why do you find it offensive? Was that a serious comment?
I'm not taking sides or anything, I just don't get what you mean.
