Okay, I heard a long long time ago that Kristin and Idina had some beef with each other, but one of my best friends' dad is the producer of Wicked and she knew nothing about this. Either did he. Is it possible that this is just a rumor?

Either way, will someone please tell me what the "Beef" was? I had no idea if there was any!

There have been thousands of people saying thousands of different things about Idina and Kristin. As far as I know none of them were true. You have a good chance this wasn't either.

Yeah, there were a lot of rumors going around that the two hated each other or something, mostly around Tony time because they were competing for the award.

I think that if Idina hated Kristin, then she wouldn't have said "I love you!" in her Tony speech.

The "beef" was blown all out of proportion (sp)

Here is the story from an original cast member in the chorus. Idina and Kristin were fine, until the Tony nominations. Being that they were both nominated, there was a little tension between the two, but not enough to cause hatred or "beef". They were very supportive of one another, and when my friend had a long conversation with Kristin, (back in October 2003) she was going on about how Idina had come a long way, and was saying nothing but good things about her.
BUT
Kristin also was qouted as saying "Off stage, we're two different people, but when we're onstage, we are together". I, personally interpreted this as "We're not close offstage".

Now, rumor has it that the reason Kristin left the show was because she hadn't won the Tony. If she would have won, she would have stayed in the show, and Idina would have left. But, that part is not officially true, as Kristin said that she was leaving because she had other projects coming up. (The question is, though, did these projects that she's doing now come up AFTER she left the show?)

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Justice,

re: the last part about Kristin leaving because she didn't win the Tony?

Kristin announced her last date in mid-may. The Tonys were still three weeks away.

Justice, Kristin had already announced she was leaving on July 18th before the Tonys, and Idina had already extended her contract. In fact, some believe Idina had an edge over Kristin in the Tony race because she was staying with the show longer, making her seem more dedicated to it. Kristin didn't leave earlier than Idina because she didn't win the Tony.
As for their relationship, they're very different people. I think they respect each other professionally, but I don't see them as being best buds. But I don't know them, so I can't really make judgements, that's just the impression that I get.

From sources of backstage people who worked with them for every performance, they said that they respected each other. That they liked each other but there was never really any friendship. Mainly because they were two TOTALLY different people. I mean look back in the article about them a year ago i nthe NY Times. They are said to be sort of the opposite in terms of letting loose and having fun. Idina is a ton more serious than Kristin, not daying that Kristin doesn't take her work seriously, but anyone who has talked to her at the stagedoor after a show or concert will know that she's a very free-spirited very funny very KIND woman who loves her work and her fans.

Despite the fact that people say they are leaving, do you really think if Kristin had won she would have left? Or would she have extended her contract?
And B'wayguy, I'm not stating anything as a fact. These are things I have heard from sources, as I mentioned in my previous post.

well, all i know is that i respect them both. but i can understand how they would be totally different. i mean, kristin is really girly and fun, and idina just seems more anal ( not in a bad way, i love her). But, all i know is that she is married to Taye Diggs...he's gorgeous, and makes me ummm...well, all the girls/gay men, know what i'm thinking! re: Kristin and Idina

MEMO:

Contrary to some popular belief, the BWW message board is not intended to be a place to start rumors about performers or pretend to give information that is slighty or plainly untrue.

If you did not hear it from Kristin or Idina, how are YOU to know??? I suggest keeping your thoughts or speculations to yourself unless you have SUBSTANTIAL evidence. (may be a hard concept for some of our users to grasp)

Lets try and keep the board for breaking news, intelligent conversations, and polls.

Happy Posting!!!

I don't think it's starting rumors. It's just what they heard, they were just relaying it to us. Give it a rest, people have a right to say what they want...hello, freedom of speech. just 'cuz it upsets you doesn't mean you have to be rude about it.

divacathe,

How is "Kristin left the show because she didn't win the Tony" NOT a rumor??? Its a false one at that.

I understand I may have sounded harsh, but wouldn't you be ticked you were to come across the board and find a ridiculous rumor about you???

I just think we (most of us) have more sophisticated and intelligent things to speak of rather than "relaying" rumors.

I agree that Kristin and Idina are and should be highly respected as people and performers, as you do. So why must we focus on little petty things like fake "beef"??? They deserve better than that, as do most performers on Broadway.

Sorry I sounded harsh.

I always wondered why Kristen left in July, but never attributed it to "beef" with anyone. She wasn't with the Broadway production for more than... how many months? 9 or so? But I believe she's been with the project since nearly square one. That's a long time, folks. Maybe she was simply ready to move on?

I don't feel I said anything upsetting. and to quote myself, I said "Rumor has it..." I did not state that as a fact, so calm down.
Also, I like them both, but god-forbid if they are not friends off-stage? What is that? I can list many actors who work together who never got long..(Lets' start with Barbra Streisand and Walter Mathou in Hello Dolly, and then move on to George and Jane Jetson (the voices - they hated each other) and how about Debra Winger and Richard Gere? And the best example Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. Publicly (media-wise) they were the best of friends, but in truth, they were jealous of each other because they were always competing for the same roles.) The ones I've just mentioned are factual. (Oh, and Otto Preminger got along with No one, which is why he was fired from the Batman series after only one episode.)

Well, DickonDefysGravity how many online message boards do you know of that don't deal in rumors? As long as it is not mean spirited I don't see a problem.
Re: Kristin and Idina, I believe that Idina and JLT have a much closer relationship.

And unfortunately anybody can post a claim to some insider information...for instance I could say my nanny and papaws friend Brenda Sue's son is a janitor in the theater where Wicked was playing and he once saw Idina borrow Kristen's lipliner without asking..that's what the beef was..

Actually I saw the show just a week before the tonys, right when the Kristin Idina thing was at its height. And during the show (between dancing through life and popular) Kristin’s bed didn’t come out. Due to a malfunction or something and it was really funny. Kristin was trying to get the scene going again but Idina just couldn’t stop laughing. Soon Kristin’s bed started to budge and she got on it and was almost "riding" it. Then Kristin waved her wand and said to the audience "a million dollar folks". They both looked at each other and started to laugh that’s when I said to myself "they are friends".

Oh, live theater
