Ouch. She may wind up being outsold by Miley and Katy Perry.

And not sure how true this story is.

I'm not a Gaga fan, but I'm pretty shocked that the sales are expected to be this low.

Not surprised. People are growing tired of her schtick.

Who cares? I bought the album today and have only had the chandelier to hear four tracks and they're better produced than the last album. I don't get fetishizing sales figures, it's never been my thing or any way I measure if I think an album is a success or not. This is where Stephanie has to make up her mind whether she's interested in making music for whoever or if she gives into the lure of megalomania to diminishing returns.
I did notice the "love me, love me, please retweet" is syllabically similar to "Ginger Rogers danced on air," so I'm assuming the Madonna freaks have gone mental over it?
Liza- you are far more obsessed than I am. The difference is, your obsession is twisted and borderline-disturbing. Please continue keeping tabs on the charts and speaking on behalf of the general public, I'll be over here enjoying the album. And thanks for the shout-out :) Updated On: 11/19/13 at 11:03 PM

"Chance to hear to chandelier" is also syllabically similar to "Ginger Rogers danced on air"!

I'M SO UNORIGINAL AND MY FANS ARE TOO DUMB TO NOTICE
You think they sound better produced than the last album? I really loved Born This Way. I think Art Pop mostly sounds like songs that didn't make the cut for Born This Way. There's only two songs off Art Pop that stuck in my head.
Judging from the ratings she got on SNL I don't think people are tired of Gaga. I think she just released a mediocre album.
Really liked "Born This Way" a lot, and I considered it her finest work overall until "ARTPOP". The production on this album is impeccably layered, but not to the point where it sounds cluttered (like, at its weakest, "BTW" could be), and I think the songs are stronger. Some outstanding melodies and hooks, but thematically more varied than before
And with the exception of "Gypsy", the songs sound nothing like the previous album to my ears. "Born This Way" was written with heavy influences from stadium rock and metal, this album is decidedly electronic dance.

I think it's a disappointing album. Applause improved with time, so maybe the rest will too - I just don't feel like giving it another spin, though. A shame.

Katy Perry just released a mediocre record, and it seems to be doing well.

She's safer, and easier to like. Makes perfect sense to me.
Yeah, I agree. That's why I was always puzzled with Gaga's apparent huge mainstream success in the first place.
In retrospect, I am too. But she had catchy songs and arrived at a time when that kind of music was nowhere bear prevalent on the radio. The songs are still fabulous, but substantially more bizarre and not nearly as radio friendly, which I totally respect. I can't imagine tracks like "Mary Jane Holland" or "Sex Dreams" or "Venus" causing a splash on mainstream top 40. Updated On: 11/19/13 at 09:46 AM

If she had never done anything other than create the sublime song "Swine," she'd still be aces in my book.
^ Great track! And again, would never fly on top 40. Updated On: 11/19/13 at 10:13 AM
"Some outstanding melodies and hooks"
That's just what I think the album is lacking.
I understand where you're coming from, and I have to disagree. With a few exceptions (namely "Fashion!", "Donatella", "Jewels n' Drugs"), I find the songs extremely memorable and fresh ("Sex Dreams", "Manicure", "G.U.Y", "Gypsy", for example).
And even if they take a bit longer to stick than her previous albums, I think they're simply better songs.

I loved Born This Way, but I was very disappointed in this album.
I'm not surprised Katy Perry routinely outsells her- her music is much more mainstream for a lot of people. It's the same reason Jay Leno used to get higher ratings than the vastly superior David Letterman- it's a safer, less edgy product.
The reaction overall has been very funny, but not at all surprising. With each album, the trajectory is the same. When "Born This Way" was dropped, some complained that it was too retro and preachy, and not as good as "The Fame Monster". Now some are complaining that "ARTPOP" is too contemporary and immature, and not as good as "Born This Way". womp womp Updated On: 11/19/13 at 11:15 AM

The. Mind. Boggles.
Strategically, you only quoted half of my point.

Broadwayguy be glad for Gaga- in a more just world she'd be kept in a cage and people would pay a small amount to poke at her with a stick. But yet here she is, talentless and resplendently ugly and SHE MANAGES to make a living at it! Bravo you magnificent beast!
"Strategically, you only quoted half of my point."
I don't even understand this. What did you think I was trying to say?
What I got was that you were sarcastically stating that it's a shock some find the album to be immature and contemporary. I could be wrong, and if so, I apologize. My initial point was that, with each passing album, the feedback is mixed and contradictory to the reactions from the previous album.
