It was anything but awesome. Is was laborious and overworked and looked clumsy as hell. She looked like she was running a marathon.

Oh, you meant Gaga? My mistake, I thought we were talking about Miley

No, I was talking about Gaga. Do you have a point or are you just going to blindly defend the lady at every turn
Because you come across as a psycho fan.

In the middle of a thread that was created, apparently, to bash a popular artist, asking a fan of said artist if they have a point seems kind of odd. To be fair, you gave about as detailed a review of her VMA performance as I did. You say it was clumsy, and I saw no slacking on her behalf or the ensemble. If by "overworked" you mean "busy", then I will agree. But I also thought it was clearly well-rehearsed, and that overall, it was something her fans would really appreciate.
Are we done, or would you like to call me more names?

Your post was pointless. We weren't talking about Miley.
But you can't seem to stand that other people have opinions that differ from yours.

I think everyone's making too big a deal about the album sales. As artists like Madonna have shown, the modern modern pop album is just the vehicle to access the real money makers -- the massive tours, merchandise and endorsement deals. GaGa's not so much in the music business as she is in the branding business.
I've just never gotten the appeal of GaGa musically. I love all of her kooky avant garde looks and her genuine messages of tolerance and acceptance. I think she's used her celebrity for the greater good of society while raking in millions. Good for her! Really. I just wish her music was 1/10th as interesting as her look. Sure, sometimes the production is well polished, but the actual songs (with a couple of rare exceptions) are so pedestrian. I also think she has a minimal amount of stage presence and that the clothes wear the woman instead of the way it should be. I've seen her live in concert and of course on tv. Yes, she's flailing about wildly across the stage and jumping from the piano to an energetic dance routine to hanging from all while belting out. It's all very impressive and looks like hard work. But I think the result should matter more than the effort. To me, she doesn't have that magical x-factor that makes artist like Grace Jones, Madonna (in her heyday, not so much now) or Kylie so compelling.

The Miley post was a joke. It was clear to me that we diametrically opposed on the VMA thing, so I tried to diffuse it.
But you can't seem to stand that other people have opinions that differ from yours.
I try to keep my posts as respectful and articulate as possible. If anything, what you've said could be applied to the number of users here who can't seem to stand Gaga at all, have not listened to the album that's being discussed, yet constantly post negative things about her for... who knows why. If someone says something I disagree with, I will say something about it. That's what this board is for, no?
Here's the thing: I am a fan who appreciates her aesthetic and enjoys discussing her work, so I hope you can understand that of course I'll inherently come off as a bit defensive when going up against a slew of people who don't like her. And if that's really how you feel, then it's whatever.

Relax. You don't have to call out every single person in this post who disagrees with you.
They have their opinion and you seem intent on trying to change everyone until they see this your way.

But this is a discussion board. If someone posts something here, then I am assuming that they would like people to comment on it, whether it be an agreement or disagreement. Otherwise, what's the point of posting it? I am hardly the only person here who has strong opinions on the subject, as you have probably noticed yourself.

I think Miley, Gaga & Lorde are actually broadening the pop music landscape this year.

"GaGa's not so much in the music business as she is in the branding business."
I did coin it Generation Brand recently, and it's the aspect of contemporary pop life that I am least interested in. I am also not interested in what "fans" are saying and doing. Whenever the Madonna Superfan gets all kerfluffed about something stupid a Gaga fan said about Madge on a Gaga board, I think, Christ, who would want to see what happens on a Gaga board?
Personally, I put up some kind of virtual wall between artists I like and their constant branding via social media. I LOVE Amanda Palmer and go see her in her various artistic permutations and I buy her actual product because she hasn't disappointed me. But years ago I had to stop reading her blog, and stop reading her tweets, because she was starting to get on my nerves. I disconnected from her brain dumps and still love going to see her play to this day. I knew I wouldn't if I stayed, you should excuse the expression, linked in.
I have even less interest in what fans of artists I like have to say and even less than that in what fans of artists who hate artists I like have to say.
I'm interested in the work. There is good singing and playing and songwriting on ARTPOP. It's mostly a pleasure to listen to. The two songs I don't like will probably be enormous hits with baby drags, and I hope they love them. That's all. It seems so simple. But then again, I'm from punk rock, when the greatest bands in the world nobody was listening to snuck by unnoticed. That's why I don't CARE who sold what. Who cares?

'There is literally no way to tell what the BTW sales would have been without the Amazon sale, so there's that. '
Actually that's not true, the 99 cents album deal on Amazon accounted for over 440 thousand of the first week sales meaning that BTW sold over 600 thousand in its first week at normal price. That means even without the 99 cents albums she had a HUGE drop. The album has under performed in every country and it most failed to make it to number 1 (here in the UK it went to number one but midweek sales for this week show it's tumbled to number 9 with an 84 percent drop).
Listened to the album the other day and found it painful, it has no cohesive quality, good songs are ruined with over production about 1 min in and the lyrics are dire. I do really like the song Gypsy though. She has spent so much time talking about blending art and music (something many artists have been doing for decades), creating even more bizarre looks and publicity stunts etc that she has failed to take anytime to focus on the actual music, I'm not surprised the critics didn't rave.
She has a great voice, she needs to get back to using it. When you hear so many Gaga fans saying they don't like the album well you know she has a problem.

That's quite a bold statement, when there are even more who do seem to appreciate where she was going with her album. And would you clarify what you mean by lack of cohesion? I mean, this is Gaga we're talking about, all four of her albums go in wildly different directions. Beyond superficial comparisons, I think very few of her songs sound even remotely the same.

On a related note... "I enjoy the vast majority of her work, and I don't need affirmation." By jumping down the throats of those who dislike Gaga, you are trying to prove your worth as a psycho fan and provide your own affirmation.
