You mean expecting the album to be good?
haha No. I mean expectations for what ARTPOP would and "should" sound like. The title of the album did the music a disservice, unfortunately. And yes, reading many of the negative reviews, it did seem to me like some writers had an agenda before they listened to it, and were harsh on it. Doesn't seem like a stretch to me.
I don't find this = an album that gets better with age or repeated listens. A few good songs but overall a disappointment for me.
And I respect that you didn't care for it. But my understanding is that other people (both fans and casual listeners) have been listening to the album and enjoying it more than they did initially.
I agree...and I wish Gaga would have brought more of that to ArtPop.
In my opinion, songs like "Dope", "Do What U Want", "Aura", "Gypsy", "Fashion!", "Swine", and the title track (among others) are as lyrically authentic as she's ever gotten. Furthermore, she co-produced every single track, and did "Venus" by herself. You might not care for it, but her fingerprints are indeed all over the album.

This interview clip is perfection:

Wow. Speaking in coherent, complex sentences and organizing her thoughts thematically and expressing them clearly. There are a LOT of people in her business who should watch that and see if they can learn how it's done, especially the old timer who couldn't be a coherent guest on the Barry Gibb talk show.
Of course, Gaga doesn't seem to know who it was who got to see Shakespeare plays. And she doesn't seem to realize that yes, she is a french fry but more like pommes frites with a nice garlic aioli.
She's so pretentshuhfabulous.

Pretentious more than anything else. Fabulous? That's debatable..

Ha! Good one Gaga.
Felt like the 'Do What U Want' video was announced to happen but I get the feeling the recent articles of R. Kelly's past may have either had the video reconstructed to remove R. Kelly's involvement as much as possible or reconsider doing that entirely.

My best guess is that they're editing Aguilera into the video.
She's a bit of wilted frisee.
I wouldnt say she is a pomme frite. Shes more of a cheese stuffed tater tot.

Yeah, like comfort food.
A little bit more of this kind of playfulness couldn't hurt for Gaga.

People like Gaga and Lorde (and, yes, Miley) actually have authentic feelings and ideas that they want to express.
Oh yes, these Miley lyrics are so powerful.
"All the way in the back with a dick on my lap
All the boys like to ask me 'what you doing with that?'
You, you, you say you love me, I ain't fooling with that
They ask me how I keep a man, I keep a battery pack
One day he wants me, one day he wants me not
I don't do chances, 'cause time just ain't what I got
If he's like that, I got a world tour that they need me at
I can't be sitting 'round here waiting on a man
To tell me where the **** my seat be at, where Mike Will at?
[Chorus:]
She be strutting that stuff, that stuff, that stuff
Bangerz (bangerz),
She be strutting that stuff
I be strutting my stuff
She be strutting that stuff, that stuff, that stuff
Bangerz (bangerz)
She be strutting that stuff, that stuff, that stuff
Bangerz (bangerz)
She be strutting that stuff, that stuff, that stuff
Bangerz (bangerz),
She be strutting that stuff
I be strutting my stuff
She be strutting that stuff, that stuff, that stuff
Bangerz (bangerz)
She be strutting that stuff, that stuff, that stuff
I be strutting my stuff
[Britney Spears (Miley Cyrus):]
I'm flying high up on a bird, acrophobiac
Got slick, caught her eyeing down my purse, where the dollars at?
I let them know the rents due on the first,
They can call a hearse
'Cause if there's any violation I go off with that
Cat walk, slick talk, I'm flirting with them big dogs
(Why I need these milli's when I got Billy on the speed dial)
(You know I'm on that meow)
Quick to scratch your eyes out
Strutting on the court, make them nervous, calling time out
[Chorus]
The play boss, the play, got to get that big rock
Sit that on my hey, make that mean old big talk
The play boss, the play, sike that must be the purple
Got up in my brain, had me a little bit dismal"
I like her silly lyrics as much as her heartfelt ones.
