So there are a handful of good tracks in a record filled largely with filler?
God, she imitates Madonna in EVERYTHING!!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

^ HA. There are three weak tracks imo, but then again the word "filler" is beyond subjective.

If you guys want to help get her in a cage I've got the sticks already (leftover from a previous venture with Debbie Boone). I think we really could make some money but we have act fast while people still remember her. NO ONE wants to poke at some weird looking unknown Greek girl with a stick.

Her SNL appearance last weekend showed off many attributes that I generally consider to be talents.

I used to like her, her music, her message, her avant garde fashions, etc. But even she has gotten too weird for me with those buck teeth, etc. And she keeps on attacking people like Madonna when it's clearly the fans making things up about them and not the artist herself. She got too big too fast and seems to have imploded. She's clearly talented. She just needs to step back and get some perspective about her direction.

When exactly did she attack Madonna once, let alone "keep on attacking" her?

The main problem I see with Lady Gaga is that she took all this time to reinvent herself for ARTPOP, but didn't take any time to reinvent her music. It all sounds the blurred together with the same annoying man-like vocal reflections she now always starts a song with.
I think she just needs to sit down and do an Adele-like, stripped-down acoustic album.

I was wondering, when it saw her on SNL, if she could ever do a song without wearing some strange outfit? She's got a great voice, but she seems to want to be known more for her crazy costumes than her singing.
I mean, how many changes did she do in that ONE song that I saw a while back? It wasn't about the song, it was about the costume changes.
That's a trick for people with less talent, like Nicky 'Auto-tuned Chipmunk' Minage.

You mean "Applause" at the VMAs? That was awesome. It was a look at her previous iconography, concluding in an introduction to the new album. It was simple, theatrical, and it worked.

Please keep deflecting and defending, rather than actually addressing the valid points both Diva and Wildcard made. You're great at this. Are you a politician?

Well to be fair, Elton John was the same way with the costumes. I'm not comparing his music to hers but I am saying that that an artist can successfully transition from that type of image to something more serious.

I don't think anyone is denying that Gaga is very talented and riskier than Katy Perry. I think people are just finally tired of her shtick, and I knew this day would come since 2008.
I love Katy Perry, but I'm not going to defend her every time someone criticizes here, like some people do with others....
Katy is a safer product and is much more relatable to the general public. She doesn't take herself too seriously, the total opposite of Gaga. I do think she is a talented musician and songwriter, but I would never say she's vocally as strong as Gaga. Two completely different types of voices.

LH - And please keep adding nothing to the conversation, it's quite impressive. I am addressing what they're saying, you just don't agree with it so therefore it's not "valid". So please listen to the album, form your own opinion on it (i.e. not obsessing over the charts,) and find something relevant to say. Thanks!

ljay - with all due respect, it's statements like this that I don't understand. What day is that?

For those who are interested, here's a cool video of Perry and Gaga singing the same notes.

I'm sure Gaga has a larger range, but Perry can sing.

Perry has improved since she started, for sure.

I still like Gaga. I love her weirdness. But I've listened to the album at least 4 times now and still only remember three songs.

I really can't stand the sound of Perry's voice. All of her songs just sound like overproduced bellowing. When she was on SNL it sounded like she was supposed to be singing along to a backing track that wasn't playing, because she sounded really quiet and also not very good, or at least not that loud shouty way she sounds on all her songs.

I can't stand Perry's voice either. Especially live. Like nails on a chalk board.

Agreed, PRS. Comparing Perry with Gaga is not great. As much as I cannot stand her, Gaga is the more skilled vocalist. By far. But Perry is a fabulous songwriter. Leagues beyond and above Gaga in that department.

What day is that?
The day she goes from an album selling 1.1 million copies in its first week (thank you Amazon 99cents sales) to an album selling around 220k-260k in its first week. That's a MASSIVE fall. The only way to process that is to assume that she's lost some of her audience.
